After a two-day break, voting for the fourth round of Saimoe has begun. But for now, let's take a look back at the previous round & see how our remaining eight girls stack up, as well as how good their odds look for the quarter finals. First things first- total vote counts. For the first two rounds, Saten had the leading the number of votes, but that changed this time after the heated battle between Azusa & Mikoto, with Azunyan now holding the top spot. & it's actually Nadeko from "Bakemonogatari" who holds the second spot, giving her more total votes than Nagi who beated her. In fact there were enough losers with high vote counts that winners Nodocchi & Koromo from "Saki" don't even crack the top ten this time around (by the way, Yui, who lost way back in Round Two, still makes it into the top 20). Here are our top ten girls as they currently stand:
- 2130 Azusa Nakano @ K-On!
- 2086 Nadeko Sengoku @ Ghostory
- 2057 Ruiko Saten @ A Certain Scientific Railgun
- 2052 Mikoto Misaka @ A Certain Scientific Railgun
- 1968 Kanade Tachibana @ Angel Beats!
- 1942 Mafuyu Shiina @ Seitokai No Ichizon
- 1842 Nagi Sanzenin @ Hayate The Combat Butler
- 1811 Aoi Yamada @ Working!
- 1730 Maria @ Hayate The Combat Butler
- 1719 Shana @ Shakugan No Shana
When looking at just this round though, Azunyan still holds the top spot, but this time it's Biribiri that's right behind her. Nodoka also fairs better when looking at the votes this way. & interestingly enough, both Yamada & Saten came out with the same number of votes this round:
- 1052 Azusa Nakano @ K-On!
- 1026 Mikoto Misaka @ A Certain Scientific Railgun
- 960 Nagi Sanzenin @ Hayate The Combat Butler
- 866 Nodoka Haramura @ Saki
- 816 Shana @ Shakugan No Shana
- 799 Nadeko Sengoku @ Ghostory
- 748 Aoi Yamada @ Working!
- 748 Ruiko Saten @ A Certain Scientific Railgun
- 719 Nanoha Takamachi @ Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
- 709 Fate Testarossa @ Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Koromo may have the lowest number of votes for a winner in both this round & the tournament as a whole, but check this out. She actually had the highest voting percentage for the third round. Gotta love it when the numbers do crazy things like that! Her co-star Nodocchi follows closely behind her, & giant underdog Yamada after that. Current voting leader Azunyan actually falls near the bottom of this list:
- 53.57% Koromo Amae @ Saki
- 53.36% Nodoka Haramura @ Saki
- 50.54% Aoi Yamada @ Working!
- 50.10% Nagi Sanzenin @ Hayate The Combat Butler
- 49.64% Shana @ Shakugan No Shana
- 46.84% Ruiko Saten @ A Certain Scientific Railgun
- 46.76% Azusa Nakano @ K-On!
- 46.42% Mafuyu Shiina @ Seitokai No Ichizon
"Saki" is of course the only series left to have more than one character left, making this the most diverse Final Eight since 2006, when all eight finalists were from different series. Compare this to last year when HALF of the quarter finalists were all from "Saki" (it was glorious):
- 2 Saki
- 1 A Certain Scientific Railgun
- 1 Hayate The Combat Butler
- 1 K-On!
- 1 Seitokai No Ichizon
- 1 Shakugan No Shana
- 1 Working!
& in terms of seiyuu, Rei Kugimiya is also the only one left with more than one character. Two of her most famous tsundere roles, Shana & Nagi, still remain. Can a Kugimiya character win for a second year in a role? & since they're the only two tsunderes left in the tournament, if they win then we'll get a tsundere winner for the third year in a row. Nagi, who made it to the final round once before only to lose, looks to redeem herself. Meanwhile Shana, who's been competing in Saimoe for several years, looks for this year as her chance to finally take the crown:
- 2 Rie Kugimiya
- 1 Kaori Fukuhara
- 1 Ryou Hirohashi
- 1 Kanae Itou
- 1 Yuki Horinaka
- 1 Ami Koshimizu
- 1 Ayana Taketatsu
Today's matchup features two blond Japanese girls, both of which are also huge otakus. Who will win? My money's on the dark horse Mafuyu, though personally I'm hoping for Nagi to advance once again.
