Comic-Con: Bandai Entertainment

Jul 23, 2010 23:21

Bandai Entertainment was the first anime/manga company to hold an industry panel at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, & they made sure not to disappoint & prove that they're not dead yet by announcing a few new titles. In terms of anime, they licensed "Turn A Gundam" & "Tales of the Abyss," the bigger one between the two of them obviously being the Gundam series. While the news was expected as Bandai left a few not-so-subtle clues on their Twitter account over the past few days, it's still surprising considering that "Turn A Gundam" is over 10 years old. Having such an old title get newly released in today's anime market is truly astounding. Then again, this is Bandai & they do love them some Gundam.

Besides just anime though, Bandai also added a new license to their growing & successful manga lineup as well. Unsurprisingly, it's the manga version of one of their anime titles- Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens! The original version of the story, I imagine that this should prove quite popular in the states, even more so than the anime adaptation. Especially considering the story goes much further than the anime, though the manga has been on-hold for a year & a half now as the manga-ka recuperates. Now let's just hope that American fans don't get as rage-filled at Nagi-sama as the Japanese fans did.
