I Quit Smoking - Champix (week 1)

Oct 27, 2012 15:19

Following on from my blog entry of Thursday 18th October hubby and I picked up our prescription for Champix tablets on Monday 22nd October in the morning and started taking them straight away together.
Monday 22nd then became day ONE of this journey although nothing significant started happening until days 3 and 4.

The first three days its one half strength tablet a day then you moved on to two a day each taken eight hours apart, its around this time we did start to notice a difference and both started actually finding it difficult to finish a cigarette completely. The second week the tablets go up to full strength and at two a day each taken eight hours apart, you stay on this strength for another few weeks until you are ready to come off the tablets really but its in week 2 that you quit completely.
We are on day 6, its definitely just dealing with the habit form of smoking since yesterday evening, I have not smoked for six hours since 9:30am this morning where I had a few puffs of one when I woke up whilst lighting it for my husband. Our quit day was set for the 1st but I do not think I need to wait that long. Blowing into the meter on Thursday there was a significant drop in levels for both of us, hubby's changed the most his went down to 35 mine to 15 so we are on track I think and will be so proud to achieve this together.
I am willing myself to last 24 hours without a smoke because then I just will not light up again no matter what happens as I really want to give up completely this time. My head is telling me to just not buy them again for either of us once these are finished, will chat to my husband and see what he thinks, he's on his third one of the day right now which is an enormous improvement as he's normally finished a whole box of ten by 3pm. I'm so proud of him, this is his birthday present to himself giving up smoking, he's always smoked since he was a lad and avidly wants to be even more a picture of health than he is now. I mentioned to him the other day that this will take years off him in the future which made him very happy indeed.
