Good Things Friday on a Sunday

May 02, 2010 19:53

Because when things turn for the better, one should pause and realise.

1. I'm writing a Good Things Friday list on a Sunday, because between then and now there was no me time thanks to enjoyable events down the list.

2. A new work-fic I'm putting together is happening. 31 authors on it so far, the first version went out on Wednesday, and there is no flame in my mailbox yet. Granted, I asked them all to limit written communication to constructive comments and leave emotional objections to Skype or phone discussions. One person requested Skype-talk, which we arranged on Saturday noon, and he had objections:

Co-author: This other person on the authors list crossed me and I don't like to work with him ever again.

Nata: But can you work with me?

Co-author: Yes.

Nata: *grinds teeth as this will pile more on me* Fine, report directly to me.

Co-author: Oh. Okay.

It will move on. There shall be flame, but five days down the road, the skies are clear. I appreciate that. A lot, after the ruckus of the April work-fic.

There has been a major discussion on Friday about possibility of data analysis, and we were able to find a solution that should work with the tight time-schedule.

3. I talked to my grandfather on Tuesday, and neither of us ended crying (much), even though we discussed grandmother's urn.

4. Six flower species that I want bloom on my meadow. There are two more I don't particularly desire, but six beauties are excellent. And there will be many more. The diversity of green seedlings is amazing. The third season of effort, the meadow will finally bloom this year. I'm beyond happy. All indigenous plants, a blooming meadow is essential for my dream garden.

5. All four grape plants survived rabbit attack at the end of winter.

6. Children were willing to participate in the Witch Burning on Friday - a tradition, when a witch puppet, representing hardships of winter, is burned (drowned) on 30 April. A huge bonfire and costumes are a must. Up until now, they were always too scared of the costumes.

7. saschia came over for the weekend! We made her a cake from my grandmother's recipe and I managed without tears. With a heavy heart, but not overwhelming any more. It is over, and we bear the consequences.

8. Battlestar Galactica marathon on Saturday with a few other people. It went really well, because the series did not interest me much. Thanks heavens for small mercies. Five seasons would have taken too much time I don't have to give to a TV show. Castle is enough. Saschia brought me seven more episodes. Mr N took care of children on Saturday during BSG marathon and he even made us barbecue that we prepared before the crowd arrived. Perfect.

9. I missed deadlines for a fantasy writing competition and for turning in my scores for another one. Why would a failure be a good thing? Because it means I was able to sort my priorities and give up non-essentials. With a shrug and a smile, even.

10. saschia brought her Wii Remote. The matches were superb.

11. She also brought RoboRally, a programming desk game. We played most of today, and slowly brought in children to full rules.

12. Rain. With spring smell and clean warmth. I love rain in spring.

13. Students. Mustn't forget the students. All four turned responsible this week, even though there was a bit of complaining about work load. I can deal with whining as long as they do the work. They all did this week.

14. And lab work. Annoying as always, marginally successful, the best thing about whole day of pipetting was that my wrist survived the strain. I will have to do more next week, but perhaps the wrist healed after two years of recovery from the surgery.
