deer watching this morning before 8AM
I fed the deer little while ago, filling 8 bowls with three scoops of Deer feed. The deer showed up quite soon afterwards, first one then another with one still over the edge of the hillside They were very skittish; the one over the hillside looked very young with the short nose and very puffy cheeks I thought they might be able to see me so I stay very still in my lofty Treefort window. It was -25C, or about -10F; that's why the small one's fur was sticking out so much, light socket style.
AFter they left, another two came. At first I thought they were the same ones, but they were very skiddish and acted as if they'd not been here, the way they were checking out the bowls, one at a time.
The large one may have had an Underbite like another new one I'd identified earlier. He had a white jawline, a bib and a dark line between the front legs. It was interesting to watch him, who is probably a her, exploring each of the bowls and the ground around them.
The second one came up, what a baby face he had! Lots of fur in his ears, a white jawline, white eye rings and white over the nose. His fur was puffy so he looked whitish around his face. He came along and searched for food, but it was gone, so he tried, but didn't get much.
As soon as they let, I went outside and refilled all the bowls. Nobody has come back yet, though. These deer this morning were so worried about the house, eventhough it was very still inside. I made some ipod videos of them as well as some zoomy camera ones.
I need to get out my cards and list their characteristics.
