death of the crystal palace

I got up around 8 and went out with the thought of loading up things to go to the dump. I started tidying up the glass tipi, moving the chairs outside, separating the logs from other stuff. I moved extra windows that were leaning on the tipi around to the back and removed some of the ones that were loose near the door. The frames of the wooden windows were soaked and rotting, as were the poles when I pulled them out.

So I began dismantling the north side of the tipi. It has been an eyesore. I just did small things, one thing at a time, but after removing the tarp, I removed the top windows that were a problem. I knew that side was leaning inward, but it was way too inward for my liking. Since it is no longer insured, it needs to come down, or at least any danger it poses has to come down.

At nine I went in and asked Willem if he would come out and work on it with me. Together we removed all the windows on three sides, or almost. He broke glass into two buckets and carried windows away for me. I had loaded broken frames into the car and bits of plastic tarps into a large black bag.

My back started to get tired, so it was time to go to the dump. I was able to put it all in the garbage. Willem stayed home and picked up broken glass and such and removed another window. When I got back, we tackled much of the south side of the tipi. There are only a few windows remaining on the tipi now.

I'm in pain so came in for a break. Willem has been dismantling the door fabric from the pole and windows. He's exhausted now, too!
