Baking thanksgiving pies with Daniel
Daniel and Abe came home with Willem tonight. I have spent the evening making pies with Daniel. I showed him the Joy of Cooking where it teaches about ingredients and such, and then we worked on making a lemon meringue pie, lemon filling, then the pie crust, then the meringue, putting them together and baking it.
We offered our viewers a choice between a grape and an onion. Then we made an onion chocolate chip cookie sandwich for them. Then an onion sandwich with chocolate chip cookie bread for them. Willem wouldn't eat it!
Then we made an apple pie. Daniel peeled the apples with the little dooflochie machine, we mixed up our dry stuff...oh, all this is with sugar substitute, not sugar!...made another pie crust which Daniel now knows how to make and baked it.
I then made a basket out of the apple peels since they were so long and uniform! I made it around the glass.
I'm too tired to keep cooking. I have to put the turkey in the oven by 7 for it to be ready for noon.
