It's sunny and warm today. I love it. Finally a nice warm day. They gave warnings out because it is 34C tomorrow.
I have on my short wetsuit. It's perfect for what I've been doing. The cold area is cold on my legs, but the rest of the pond is lovely and warm!
I'm in the hammock on Sumac tower, the pile of soil that was removed from the dug well many years ago. Sumacs grew up and are 25' tall now. I'm facing into the berm of tall trees between me and the road we live on.
There are lots of bird songs all around me. I'll have to figure out what they are. Whichity whichity whichity which is one I forgot, but it's a warbler. The American redstart with an abbreviated song. Now they suddenly got quiet.
Here is the yellowthroat. He usually does come when I phhhht. He is the whichity whichity which song. he's so little! I remembered him as being much bigger than that!
Here's the rose breasted grosbeak. I should go get him some sunflower seeds.
I need to finish the thyme. I was working on it on the end, too. I was putting all the rocks that were in the water over into a pile. Willem was thinking of building a stone wall to separate the shallow end from the rest of the pond. That's an interesting idea! Perhaps the rocks from the bottom of the pond could go over there, too.
I feel like I should go get my laps done today now so when Abe gets up and wants me to take him to a friend's or to the rapids. I want to have done my swimming already. We might get a thunderstorm this evening, as it's so hot today. I love it when it's hot. I really can't feel it as hot, but I know there isn't a chill in the air, even when I move my hand, so it must be good!
I got a basket at the dump the other day. I think it is made with cattails. Ankaret may have even made it. I wanted to ask her about it today.
I wonder when it's okay to harvest bulrushes. I guess after they have gone to seed. When is that, though? I wonder what was on my to do list for yesterday.
I did use the water in the container to water the geraniums. They are in plastic now which is helping them out wonderfully. But they really were getting dry in there. I flooded them with water. That was yesterday before it rained.
I had harvest and plant willow on my list, I remember. I was goign to wait to see what I wanted to do with the edge of the pond first. But perhaps now that I'm going to wait to have him dig it out more deeply, it will be okay. I should plant them along the end of the pond where it's much lower. However, they will have some competition with the canary grass roots.
I must bring down the sunflower seeds. Teh grosbeak is quite interested. I wonder where their nest is. They are in this area every year. He has gone to ground feed on the sunflower seeds that are on the ground.
The soil down here is very nice. I could plant some garden vegetables, you know! I am not sure what I'd like to plant, but something would like to grow here!
I should bring the roto tiller down to work it up. I would like to plant a nice flower garden down here. i do love flowers. Oh yes, I should move a lot of beebalm down here, too! That would be very nice at the far end where it's a bit wet!
I love that I have thyme planted now. I do love the thyme! It's such a great ground cover and such a lovely smelling plant!
I'm also glad i planted it in Everfar. I have neglected that area this year. I have barely been in the perennial beds.
Oh yes, I was going to put up some more hammocks today. I will have to go get those scissors from the other end of the pond and prepare a hammock. I think some of these sumacs can hold other hammocks.
