Daniel and Abey's obsession with war games

I worry about Daniel in the next room, my 17yo, playing some killing game 12/7 as he shares with Abey, 14, who is also playing 12/7 during exam week.

What that must do to the delicate feelings of the spirit. They both came back from youth conference last summer, totally uplifted and reading scriptures and praying. They got back into those games and lost all desire for spiritual things.

I guess I could take the CPU out of the computer! That’s about the only way I could control it now. But Joseph Smith taught the early church members, ‘teach a man correct principles and he will govern himself.’

I have taught them. We have had family prayer and scripture daily…unless I give up calling them and forget about it. Perhaps it’s twice weekly. After doing this for 28 years while raising my children, I guess I’ve gotten a bit complacent.

I get prompted every day, or evening. The spirit has not stopped striving with me. But I don’t listen all that often anymore.

Perhaps I could take the CPU, the main processor chip, out of their computers and give it to them after they’ve read and studied their seminary lessons!

They’d balk, for sure!

Interesting, though, they have been nicer to me since they are playing this game. It really looks more like war. They are in military duds, chasing others through empty buildings and abandoned streets. It reminds me of Afghanistan and Iraq. Actually, it looks just like wartorn Nicosea!
