So, I work in an old building. I work in the "new wing," and they tell me it hasn't been updated since the 50s. The power *definitely* hasn't, and they only add things when they absolutely have to. It is so "fine tuned," that turning on the electric kettle or coffee maker while everyone's computer is on is a quick way to blow the breaker. That is a problem during Christmas. Maybe *one* person can plug in lights, but then it's just too much for our little power grid, and we have to call Building Services to flip the switch. So, I was very sad that I wouldn't get to plug in my tiny tree this year.
Eric, being awesome, took two strands of battery operated lights and soldered them together. Then, he stuck a USB plug on the end. Now, it can just sap energy from my monitor, and everyone can still work. Plus, a bonus is that it's right here where I can see it all day! And when I turn my monitor off, the lights go off! It's kind of the best.
So, Eric wins super husband points today! This is just so cool!
