Countdown to Daffodil - 9 days.  Site issue resolved with no problems.  Attendence seems to be down, not sure how much is economy or my lack of advertising.  Bit of both likely.  May also be just more plan to day trip with out feast.  I have heard feasts here have gone not so good, so folks are not so keen on feast.  I think P is likely to make an

Has me curious why feasts don't do so well out there...

See tormentor_james comment :). One couple I talked to mentioned feasts arriving cold and a particular event where there were strict portions that were not communicated, so food ran out. I also heard last years Daffodil feast was just too much. Something like 12 courses and over 3 hours to eat or more - haven't heard a complaint on that feasts quality though.

I have heard of good cooks on the Island, but I have also seen/heard the phrase "weird period food" used. So at least part of it is just some aren't adventurous with their food (more for us then!) I think James has it in that some get turned off quickly, because I think good food does happen here. Ruantallan and Lyndhaven has had great cooks and a darn good track record, but there have been feasts that had glitches, it never turned me off.

Do they do lunches (aka dayboards out there? I found them a good venue to do the whole "hey, medieval food isn't scary" thing ;)
Haven't seen, or heard of, dayboards out here in the same sense as they do out east... not even close :S

I've been to a few bad ones but, thankfully, know they are hardly the norm. Heck... my crown event cooking was a "too much" feast and I knew it (got talked into doing far more dishes than I intended... lesson learned).

I went to a few Ealdomere events when we were either in Montreal, or I was staying in Toronto on a project. I must admint, I was surprised there was no dayboard, that it was a pay lunch, but I can see why they do it that way. The dayboard is hard to plan for when people dont reserve off board, and just show up at the door! 20 or 30 extra people can really throw the dayboard numbers off!

Yeah... what I found was a lunch with separately priced items like boiled eggs, hamburgers/sandwiches... seen meal plans as well though (sort of the same as a pre-paid dayboard) which isn't too bad.

What surprised me even more is the little to no concern about providing anything near medieval at these ventures, however people seem fine with it and I guess many do back home as well.

My standards are just too high :P
