How to change?

Feb 22, 2007 08:46

So how does one go about changing society? Or should we work within our tiny sphere to build goodness and happiness and peace in hope that it will spread to others? Should we lose ourselves in helping others, some that probably appreciate the help and others that fill themselves with apathy? Should I be out protesting the war and striving for some semblance of compassion towards the environment or should I be leading by example by creating a green home with my meager funds? Should I teach yoga and hopefully improve the world's energy a bit at a time or should I strive to become a Bioneer? Should I use my brain to improve people's health or should I use my hands to grow beauty? How can I use my talents properly?

Should I be saving for retirement or spending more for organic produce and chemical-free products? Should I spend my time volunteering at a shelter or spend it doing cardio for my health or in creating a deeper relationship with my husband? Time is slipping away quicker every year.

We have commenced our search for a home, seeing as we will most likely be in the area for quite a while. Our rent is near enough to a mortgage, but that extra per month will mean less is saved. We have chosen to live in a extremely beautiful, safe, and friendly suburb, which also happens to be the second best city to live in the US, meaning it is a bit more expensive. However, for this safety and beauty and good energy, we commute--me about 30 minutes north into the city and Drew about 15 minutes south-ish. Would it be better for the environment if I lived in the city, which would mean filling my body with high amounts of pollution, including that from noise, and losing a lot of safety and beauty? I love being about to walk to the local park or bike to a grocery store and my yoga class. They city would drive me too batty. Oh, the compromises.
