House-hunting

Mar 12, 2007 08:13

As we grow older and hopefully wiser while retaining a bit of immaturity by laughing at words like 'penetration' and life situations like a room full of plastic balls, we are on the frustrating search to move forward and deal with the demonic dimensions of mortgages. A house. A toss up between the ideal and what we will settle for and what we can afford. Have you ever thought of which part of your house would you rather not live without? A big bedroom on consummate passions and dreams? A large kitchen to create meals of healthy art and beauty? A massive living room for friends to congregate and play? Have you ever tried placing pricetags on these luxuries?

It's so impenetrably difficult, like finding a needle in a haystack, the diamond in the rough, the last heart piece in Zelda. I feel like a massive cavern exists between $290k and $320k (don't cringe...that's the low end of the market up here). On one side lies tiny claustrophobic rooms (three rooms where one should be) and tiny kitchens and no space for a dinning table. On the other lies the perfect kitchen with a separate dining area and good-sized master bedrooms and a fireplace.

I wish I had an adviser, more than a realtor, though she is fantastic. I wish my mommy or daddy could view the houses with us. Ah, the independent society, where kids travel off to make the world a better place while leaving the people who have loved them their entire lives far behind, only to chat over the phone or share pictures online occasionally. I miss my parents, as much as they drive me slightly crazy. Friends are my family now, and even they or we will eventually move off and onward. At least, we have our kitties.
