She loved that he looked good in leather. And a business suit. And bare thread jeans. And nothing at all. It was no hardship to look at Oliver. He was all tight muscles and contained strength.
It should have bothered her that he dated her cousin and quite publicly on top of that. Lois and Oliver were two peas in a pod with their straight shooting and penchant for attention. So when Oliver came calling, Chloe already knew all of his patented moves. She had watched them with her very own eyes in the not-so-distant past. But she was no Lois Lane. Chloe treasured her privacy. It may have stemmed from the fact that she was actively breaching other people’s. But the fact remained that she was a behind-the-scenes kind of girl. And Oliver was always in the limelight. It was one of the greatest gifts he had given her when he curbed that side of him. She knew that this was a huge sacrifice on his behalf. Oliver was never shy about slipping his arm around her or sneaking a kiss. But for Chloe, there was a time and a place for those things. Even after they were discovered by their friends, they maintained a professional air between themselves (with the one notable exception of near death experiences). Oliver valued Chloe and that included her need for privacy.
She should have known that this was the way it would turn out. When she sat at that café, she knew that she had done right by Oliver. She drank her coffee all the sweeter with the taste of victory on her tongue. But when Oliver came and recounted his story to her, really their story back to redemption, she was hit by the realization that those eyes had seen right to her. In those moments with all pretenses stripped away they opened up to each other. Then and there, she should have realized that he would be the one. His eyes so much like the coffee she drank. His glaze clear for the first time in weeks. He looked at her and saw all she was. His eyes would come to be her addiction. On a street in a city, she took the first step into free falling into love.
It was such a little part in the grand scheme of things. Oliver was a complex man with many facets. But she found that one of her favourite things about him was his impeccable manners. He always waited for her to sit before he took his own seat. He tried to open doors for her whether they were strolling casually or breaking in. He allowed her to make her decisions but somehow always managed to let her know that he supported her. It was one of those things that held him apart from the men in her life. It made him different but in a completely refreshing manner.
What it came down to was that Oliver never forgot her. He never made her feel small or unimportant. Just the opposite, he maintained a steady stream of texts with pictures and funny one-liners. They were essentially nothing more than messages letting her know that he was thinking of her. At the beginning, she was grateful that he followed protocol. When their relationship took a different route, those messages simply warmed her heart. She fell for a guy who truly understood her, no holds barred. All her quirks, her thirst for justice, her uncontrollable attraction to danger. He never blinked when she brought her phone to the bed. He laughed in exhilaration when there was an alarm in the middle of the night. He was always willing to listen to her orders. And he did all that with the zeal of a solider. But when the mission was over, he held her as a woman, not a commander. He made her yearn for something beyond stained glass.
For all the reasons she loved him, she knew that this was the one that meant the most. She was irrevocably in love with the man who knew her better than anyone else.
A/N: So what do you think? Just another inference from me about our fav couple. These parts of their relationship always confused me (damn Chlollie why must you be so private?) and made me wonder (check out escape. Oliver definitely waits for Chloe before he sits down). I love Chlollie and this is my guess as to why Chloe loves Ollie. Review please! I’m really curious to see when you read the fic from in the series.
Beyond stained glass. I know you know it!! It was originally beyond the mission but I had to change it to fit. lol
