Next Thursday, July 23, Midnight returns, with DJ DuJour and three outstanding bands--Nachtmahr, Alter der Ruine, and XUBERX--for a special show at DC9...
THREE GREAT LIVE ACTS
For a long time we've contemplated hosting some full-scale live shows that wouldn't work with the traditional mostly DJ/dance format of Midnight Saturdays. So when two of our resident DJs, Vlad and DuJour, pitched this one to us, it was impossible to resist. Here's the lineup:
* Nachtmahr (www.myspace.com/nachtmahrprojekt) is the brainchild of noted Austrian artist Thomas Rainer (of L'Ame Immortelle, etc.). Founded in 2007, it was a major hit at Wave Gotik Treffen the following year, where it fired up an audience of 3,000 gothic/industrial music fans with its aggressive sound. Its hit song "BoomBoomBoom" is a favorite at Midnight and other clubs that try to keep up with the latest scene music. As the magazine ORKUS notes, Nachtmahr sets "the new standard for the electro industrial genre"--don't miss them!
* Alter der Ruine (www.myspace.com/alterderruine) is a three-member "electro/hardcore/techno" act hailing from Tucson, AZ. Fans of groups such as Accessory, Haujobb, Converter, and Noisuf-X will find them especially appealing; and they always put on a rousing show.
* XUBERX (www.myspace.com/xuberxnoise) is the hometown favorite in the July 23 lineup, an outstanding D.C.-based industrial band that includes Midnight resident DJs Liebchen and Cheetahdave, plus lead vocalist Zomboy. They've now released an EP and two full-length CDs, and have opened locally and/or on tour for Hanzel und Gretyl, Accessory, Bella Morte, The Cruxshadows, The Dark Clan, and more. Haven't heard them before? Think Stromkern or Angelspit, with a touch more attitude.
AND A TOP-NOTCH DJ
If these three bands don't get you dancing you're so gothic that you're already dead (or you have work hours resembling those of Scott). Between and after their performances, though, we've booked Midnight resident DJ DuJour (check her Internet radio station, www.live365.com/stations/djdujour) as well.
THE SHOW'S AT DC9, NOT THE MEETING PLACE!
Please note that this show will NOT be held at Midnight's old location, The Meeting Place. It's at DC9 (1940 9th Street NW, Washington), a short walk from the U Street Metro station. We'll be running on the venue's upper level (try not to bend, spindle, or mutilate DC9's regular clientele, who we view as possible future recruits, en route to the stairs on your left in back).
Just as Midnight has always been, this is an 18+ event (IDs required, please). Tickets are $10 in advance (online via www.dcnine.com) or $12 at the door. Our apologies, but unlike most Saturdays, we will NOT be using the regular guest list on the 23rd.

MIDNIGHT is no longer operating at The Meeting Place in D.C., but expects to reopen at a new venue soon. Keep posted on developments and other parties of interest at one of our websites:
