For those of you who haven't already heard, this is Midnight's final week at The Meeting Place. But we're putting on one hell of a going away party! FGFC820 is performing live; DJs DuJour, Vlad, and Fix will rock the house; Skycrafts is vending; and we've got some nice drink specials. So come join us one last time at TMP. Hey, if we get all the contractual details finalized in time, we may (wink!) even announce where Midnight will reopen on Saturday, July 11...
FGFC820 WILL PERFORM
Midnight has hosted some outstanding live shows over the years at The Meeting Place, and we think our final one will really wow you. New York-based FGFC820--a self-described "harsh electro/EBM project"--consists of popular industrial scene DJs Rexx Arkana (also of Bruderschaft) and Dracos. The band's sound has been favorably compared to that of groups such as Nitzer Ebb and early Front 242. Come catch one of their last performances before going on tour to South America!
IN THE DJ BOOTH
Most of the evening, as always, will be devoted to music spun by our DJs; and our final roster at TMP consists of three of your request-friendly favorites, DuJour, Vlad, and Fix:
* DJ DuJour, who made her professional debut with us back in May 2005, has also been a resident at the '80s Night at The Blue Iguana, has guested all over, and runs her own Internet radio station (www.live365.com/stations/djdujour).
* Vlad, one of D.C.'s best known gothic/industrial DJs, has worked as a resident/promoter at numerous local events, including Purgatorio, chiarOscuro, and Exposure. A reviewer for Re-Gen and Side-Line, he always has his finger on the pulse of new music.
* Fix, who typically spins sets ranging from goth rock to older dark industrial, is also an accomplished artist and musician (Bajskorv, Impulse Control). You may also have danced to his playlist at clubs such as Tomb, Bound, and Wasteland.
SKYCRAFTS WILL VEND
Make a final stop by the vendors corner on Saturday, where you'll find Midnight regular Tim Olsen from Skycrafts (www.skycrafts.net). Set up in 2004, it sells some fine air brushed paintings and prints, hand-tooled wood photo and picture frames, and magnificently decorated t-shirts. Tim is bringing us some brand new material, so be sure to check out his display.
YOU BET THERE'S MORE!
Since opening at TMP in November 2002, we've always offered you more for your money; and this Saturday will be no exception:
* DRINK DEALS -- There'll be two-for-one beverages from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. Later, from 11:00 until our last, last call, order one of these specials (all prices are + tax): Bud Lights, $2.50; all Coronas and all "rail drinks" (generics like "gin and tonic"), $4.00; Captain & Cokes, $5.00. And consider downing one of TMP's "black death shooters" ($2.00) for old times' sake.
* FREE CAKE -- It wouldn't be Midnight without free cake slices shortly after 12:00. We're celebrating Heather K.'s and Trista's b'days; and some of the following folks may also be joining us: Punk Steve, Barbara, Ally, Beth, Sasha Shame, Rachel, Nathan, Rodney, Steph, and Abby. This will also be a going-away party for Laura Hofford, our former live acts coordinator, who's moving to VA Beach.
* ENTER THE DRAWING -- Around cake time we'll also pick the winners of this week's drawing prizes--newly released CDs by 23 Rainy Days, Third Realm, Red This Ever, XUBERX, and Reaver. Thanks to Radio-Active-Music.com for its contributions!
* ADMISSION DISCOUNTS -- Band or no band, we always charge just $5.00. But you can party with us for even less: Our first twelve guests each Saturday enter free. So does whoever posts the first correct answer to our "Question of the Week" (watch our LJ, www.livejournal.com/community/dcmidnight) on Thursday evenings. And if you show your 2009 high school (must be 18) or college (includes staff) ID at the cash table you'll save $2.00.
FAREWELL TO T.M.P.
We're leaving The Meeting Place behind, but Midnight isn't going away. Watch our myspace, facebook, LJ, and mailings for word on where the party is moving. We'll be closed on the 4th of July (always a traffic and parking nightmare in D.C.), but hope to be back at a new venue on the 11th with more great music, shopping opportunities, giveaways, etc. If you can't make it out this Saturday, we definitely hope to see you then!
-- Scott & the Midnight crew
