DJ DUJOUR PLUS 3 EXCITING BANDS
We went into more detail about the music lineup in last week's mailing, but just to remind you:
* Nachtmahr (www.myspace.com/nachtmahrprojekt), brainchild of Austrian artist Thomas Rainer (L'Ame Immortelle, etc.), "sets the new standard for the electro industrial genre" according to ORKUS.
* Alter der Ruine (www.myspace.com/alterderruine) is a remarkable "electro/hardcore/techno" act from Tucson, AZ.
* XUBERX (www.myspace.com/xuberxnoise) hails from D.C. and includes Midnight resident DJs Cheetahdave and Liebchen, plus Zomboy. They'll be opening the show, so don't arrive too late!
* DJ DuJour (www.live365.com/stations/djdujour) will spin between and after the bands.
SET TIMES, LOCATION, & MORE DETAILS
DJ Vlad, who helped put this show together for us, reports that the approximate set times will be 9:20-10:00 (XUBERX), 10:15-11:00 (Alter der Ruine), and 11:15-12:15 (Nachtmahr).
Please keep in mind that this event will NOT be held at our old location. It is, instead, at DC9 (1940 9th Street NW, Washington). If you take the Metro in, turn right onto U Street NW as you emerge from the U Street/Cardozo station, then right when you hit 9th Street NW. DC9 is on your right several doors down. Walk through the lower bar and look for the stairs on your left to the roomy upper level.
Just as Midnight has always been, this is an 18+ event (IDs required, please).
Tickets are $12 at the door tonight. Our apologies, but unlike most Saturdays we will NOT be using the regular guest list and admission discounts.
DRAWING PRIZES!
In addition to a chance to catch some great music and mingle with both new faces and many of the Midnight regulars, you'll have a chance to win one of several prizes in the evening's drawing (held between the ADR and Nachmahr performances):
* two copies of the new CD from Life Cried
* a pair of tickets--a $50+ value!--for Summer Masquerade Ball XIII (www.dcsmb.com), donated by our friends at Bound (
http://dc.bound.org)
Also thanks to Bound, we should have some movie premiere tickets and other giveaways for "The Collector," a new film from the makers of the "Saw" flicks.
Always one of the local scene's best attended and most interesting annual events, with numerous live acts on the bill, SMB is being held this year on Friday, August 14, at The Loft Warehouse (411 N.Y. Avenue NE, Washington). Tickets are $25 a head before August 12 or $35 each thereafter.
WE'RE CLOSED SATURDAY, JULY 25, BUT...
The Midnight crew is still doggedly working to find a really GOOD replacement venue for The Meeting Place. (All suggestions are welcome!)
We're closed this Saturday, but expect to resume operations soon. If you're looking for some alternative places to get your party on this weekend, we suggest:
* Friday, July 24 -- Ascension (www.marylandascension.com) just announced that they'll be closing permanently in a few weeks. Don't miss one of their final parties at Club Orpheus (1003 East Pratt Street, Baltimore).
* Saturday, July 25 -- Check out English Beats, a new event at The Argonaut (1433 H Street NE, Washington) from 10:00-2:00. Hang out and enjoy the venue's great beverages while DJ Shannon Stewart (DC9, etc.) spins "the best in indie and electro from the UK and beyond..." Oh, and did we mention that there's NO COVER for this one?
Hope to see you out at the DC9 show tonight!
-- Scott & the Midnight crew
