[Act 21: A Selfish Heart]
I had this dream where Aoi and I are together. There’s no money involved, no guilt, no pain. It was just pure happiness as we walked at the seashore talking nonsense things and just enjoying each other’s company. It’s a light feeling. We’re not kissing and embracing. We’re just sitting next to each other viewing the birds flying at the sky but that time, those things are what I desire the most. Just being next to him is my wish. Just loving him is enough.
Uruha was sitting next to him at the exit of the constellation house, “Sorry Aoi. The truth is I decided everything by myself. Ruki didn’t force me and it’s not because I forgot about you. My memories came back almost a month ago.”
“That’s mean Uruha,” Aoi couldn’t believe. “All this time, I keep torturing my brain thinking about how I could make you remember me. It’s because it’s so sad, to be forgotten by the one you love!” Aoi stood up. The feeling of anger he felt, it was just too much. “You know what? I just want to give up!”
“Then give up already!” Uruha looked at him on the eyes.
“Oh yeah, why the fuck can’t I just give up? It’s because of this fucking heart!” Aoi violently grabbed Uruha and kissed him. “I fucking love you so much, that’s why!”
“I fucking love you too but we can’t go on like this! Ever since the very beginning, it’s not going out well. We just have to give up. No matter how much I love you…”
“Yeah, I think so too,” Uruha miserably held his tears born by Aoi’s reply.
Deep inside his heart he hoped that Aoi would disagree and argue. It was just his serious face that hurts him the most. Their bodies separated and Uruha looked at Aoi’s back as he slowly walked further away from him.
“Uruha, you know what, you have to put a little effort on it. I’m tired.”
“It’s not like you’re the only one who’s hurt here.”
“I’m sick of your excuses Uruha. If you really love me, then I think it’s about time for you to fight for me, don’t you think?”
Aoi is right. It is all excuses. The truth is I’m just too selfish. I’m afraid to lose anyone of them. I don’t want to hurt anyone but the fact is I’m hurting both of them and the one who’s suffering the most is me.
Uruha went home and hurried to Ruki’s room, wishing that the other would be there and welcome him home but he didn’t saw the other. He threw himself down to his bed and burry his face to Ruki’s pillow. He’s just too tired. After making love with Aoi and their awful argument, Uruha wished that Ruki would just take him to New York right at that very moment. He rolled because of anxiety. An envelope stuck on his face. It might fell from the pillow case. He wondered why Ruki would hide his examination result on his bed. Uruha opened it up and the shocking truth was revealed. The next thing he saw was Ruki standing in front of the door and immediately took the paper from his hands.
“Liar… I’m so stupid,” Uruha laughed bitterly.
Ruki’s tears keep falling, it was just too unbearable for him to think that Uruha would hate him, “Please, don’t leave me. I’ll do anything…”
“Don’t you think Ruki, it’s just too funny? Today, I… I completely broke everything I had with Aoi,” Uruha laughed. “And now, I’ll know this. Right, it’s just too funny.”
Ruki kneeled on the bed and hugged Uruha, “I’m sorry Uruha. I’m sorry.”
“This is…” Uruha was still smiling as he wiped his tears dripping out of his eyes, “Ruki, I’m giving it back to you,” he took the necklace with a key hanging on it, “This is your first gift to me… at the hospital… that time… do you remember?”
“Yeah but this means…”
“Open it up, that vault…” Uruha smiled warmly cupping Ruki’s face.
“You want it? The money and the property documents in there…”
“I think Ruki had the wrong idea. Open it up,”
The two went to the vault. Ruki never opened that vault before. It only reminds him of a painful memory with Reita. It was the night before Aoi left. Reita gave him the key saying that all of his properties were there at the vault and he encouraged Ruki to check it all out. It was weird that Reita ran after giving the key and looks like he was hurrying to catch something up. Ruki decided to ignore it and headed to the vault. He entered the password written at the paper that Reita had given him but when he was about to open the vault, he decided to look for Reno. He might have a better understanding of the documents if the other was there with him, to teach the complicated things and then…
Ruki saw Reita and Aoi embracing each other.
Ruki dropped the key and looked at Uruha. The other picked it up for him and held Ruki’s hands. He gave the key and Ruki tried again. He sighed deeply and after opening he found it… his treasure.
Uruha laughed, “I think this is you and this one is Reita…” he pointed out the taller one. It’s a steel made figurine of two kids holding hands.
“I will protect you…” Ruki read the words engraved at the base.
“I don’t think I could do this for you,” Uruha smiled as he couldn’t control the tears that were falling out, “Ruki, I love Aoi. Even at the time he bullied me when we’re young, the time he confessed, the time that we left, the time that I lost my memories and even the time I remembered it all, I’ve always been in love with him.”
“I’m sorry Uruha for being selfish,” Ruki mumbled.
“I understand,” Uruha tapped his shoulders. “Umm…”
“Go on… with Aoi…”
“Thank you,” Uruha ran leaving Ruki.
“In the end… I’m alone.”
I’m glad Ruki finally understood. I will fight for Aoi right now. I want to see him. I want to tell him that I’ll be there for him from now on. It’s the end right?
“Aoi, I love you. I want to be with you,” the message was sent. The light finally turned green and Uruha could finally cross the pedestrian lane. His phone suddenly rang inside his pocket. Being too excited for Aoi’s reply, he opened his phone at the middle of the road.
Ruki’s name flashed on the screen, “Goodbye my love.”
After a second, the sound of a crazy laughter rang at the street as a black car was tainted with red and the crowd gathered trying to comprehend what just happened to the man who was still holding a phone on his hand.
I don’t even have the chance to see you.
“Manabu, it’s fine, isn’t it? Being his brother, just like that, we’ve like that ever since then, right? Just… just like that,” Byou talked to Manabu as if he was awake. It was then the vital signs started to take it shape. “Oi, Manabu…” Byou quickly examined him and called the nurses.
Byou was alone when, “I… Byou…” Manabu woke up.
It has been four years since Manabu fell asleep and Byou couldn’t believe that the other finally opened his eyes. Manabu’s hair went too long. He wasn’t able to recognize himself. It’s been four years after all. Byou finally made a miracle. To be comatose for that long, no one believed that Manabu would be able to make it., no one except him. Byou let Manabu rest as the nurses took over. He was about to call the other’s family when he met Aoi with Chizuru.
“What now?” Byou looked at them acting irritated.
“About Uruha, thank you for what you did,” Aoi smiled.
“Oh I see, then what about this brat coming here?” Byou smiled and carry Chizuru at his shoulder. “You skipped school, how lame!”
“Of course not! Chizuru wants to learn a lot! But there’s an accident on the road near my school, Daddy decided that I should rest for a while. I’m a good kid after all.”
Byou laughed, “Oh is that so? Then I have good news for you! Uncle Manabu just woke up!”
“Really?” Chizuru’s getting excited. “I want to see him! Take me there!”
“Yeah, let’s go!” Byou looked at Aoi. “I see that it didn’t work out after all,”
“Sort of… we end up arguing and…” they talked while walking back to Manabu’s room.
Hurrying nurses and doctors passed through them with a stretcher carrying a patient inside the emergency room. Aoi took a glanced of him. He’s full of blood running from his head and covering his whole body. It might have been a tragic accident. Byou saw it too. The patient wasn’t unconscious so it might really hurt a lot. He keeps coughing blood. Byou put down Chizuru.
“Go to Manabu’s room,” he ran to the doctors.
“Daddy…” Chizuru held Aoi’s shaking hands.
“Impossible,” he ran letting go of Chizuru’s hands. “URUHA!!!”
At New York…
“Ryoga, we have to go to Japan, right now!” Reno woke Ryoga.
“I’m surprise that you’re this aggressive Reno,” Ryoga smiled. “Finally, you decided to go out with me again?” he was shut as he looked at Reno’s expression. It was fierce. It was mad. It’s the scariest expression that Ryoga had seen.
“Ruki is on a mental hospital right now with Reita,” Reno stood up. “The thing that I feared the most from the start has come true.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s the time when Ruki lose himself by loving. He wants to posses Uruha completely by any means even killing him,” Reno went off from the bed. “So get your ass to the car right now and drive me to the airport.”
“I won’t go.”
“Huh?” Reno looked back. “What the fuck are you thinking?”
“I said I won’t go! It has always been Ruki, right? Even the time we’re together and happy, you gave it up because of Ruki, right?”
Reno gave Ryoga a punch, “What do you want to say? It is you who severed this relationship! Even though you know that I’m still not ready, even though you know it’s painful for me, you forced me to make love with you, right? It’s because you’re selfish!”
“So it’s okay for Ruki to lose himself and be selfish while I couldn’t be? It’s because you’re like this! It’s just too abnormal that you care for him like that as a friend! Reno, everyone wants their love to become completely theirs. I want you to become mine, completely mine! I don’t care if it’s just selfishness but I want you Reno. It’s because I love you.”
“Shut up Ryoga! If you don’t want to go with me, then fine!” Reno took the keys and went to the car. He was shocked when Ryoga entered and sat beside him.
“There’s no way I’ll let you go alone, even you Reno have things that couldn’t handle by yourself,” Reno started the car. “Look, I really regret what I did to you. I’m sorry.” Ryoga kissed him on the cheeks.
“Ruki’s the reason. You see, Ruki’s really a thoughtful person. He might have felt something for Reita back then. Aoi already left us. Knowing that the three of us just have one another, he’s scared that I might feel lonely that’s why… he brought us closer.”
Reno’s words caught Ryoga’s attention, “I thought he doesn’t feel anything for Reita…”
“It was what he chose to believe but the thing that we have right now, isn’t it just a clear proof that he wanted Reita so badly? He just loves people too much, that’s why he couldn’t help himself for asking the same. Ruki’s not a bad person Ryoga.”
“I know that even before,” Ryoga tapped Reno’s thighs.
“And I bet he wanted me to forgive you too…”
