Tokyo 2012: Upmarket Ginza and Hakone Akatsukian Noodle

Even though we didn't quite expect ourselves to shop at Ginza, a visit there was a must. I'm not sure if it is fair to compare it to NYC's Times Square but somehow that was how I felt. Between the two I say Ginza is much more organized and people really dress to the nines here. Very nice to people watch when I was not overly conscious about my own shabby dressing. In any case we explored a few malls, blown away as usual by the wide selections of everything.

My super planner hubby had intended to bring me to a soba place that is in Ginza. Poor guy was terribly upset because it took us *really* long to find the place and when we got there it was close! Feeling a little lost, we made our way back to Mitsukoshi. Much to my delight (I had wanted to cheer up my now sullen hub), we chanced upon a soba place and decided to give it a shot. It turned out to be wonderful and it is a well-known soba originated from Hakone called Akatsukian. That finally made the hubby smiled.

And we are at Ginza.

I loved that the streets were blocked when we were there. Nice to sit in the middle of the road and people watch.

Monk who exuded serenity as he prayed while people rushed by him. What a stark contrast.

Interesting appetizer - yaki-miso. I'm not a fan of miso in general but this was good.

Pretty presentation. Cold bean curd sheet which was soft and silky

Tofu glazed with some seasoning. Yum.

Oh Tempura! Delicious.

This chawanmushi is so smooth and flavourful.

Handmade soba - springy and lovely.

Appeased at last.
