Whee! Weekend... I went home, even though I totally shouldn't have, because I have a ton of stuff to do, and now I am continuing to not do stuff by writing about the weekend of wasted time in livejournal. Anyway.

On Saturday I saw X3 with Stephen. I have thoughts on X3. These thoughts are not particularly coherent or helpful. I spent most of the movie suspecting that I would hate it if I knew the source material better. The only things I know about X-Men are from the 80s cartoons I watched as a kid. From these I remember two things about the Phoenix saga: it was awesome and it was in space. THERE WAS NO SPACE IN THE MOVIE! WAH! WHY COULD THE MOVIE NOT BE HUGH JACKMAN IN SPAAAAAACE? Oh, wait, that's The Fountain, isn't it?

Man, they just killed off Scott willy nilly, there. They gave him stubble, though, first, so he would seem all hotter broken up over Jean and then we would be sadder when he bought it. Except that the buying it was rather unclear. We didn't actually get to see him break apart into a billion whiny pieces, did we? Oh, well, suxor for him...

I enjoyed this movie for its explosions, but I wasn't ever really invested in it (as opposed to, say, Serenity, where I was practically about to start throwing things at the screen in tense..ness...). The bit with the Golden Gate Bridge was really cool and all, but kinda unnecessary and, really, wouldn't it have been better to stealth in and steal the Ancient the kid? Why the huge assault? I think Magneto is the best (most interesting) character in the movies, but moving the bridge was just silly *sigh*. And if he knew they had weaponized the cure with little darts, why not, oh, I don't know, wear armor?? Gah.

The whole bit with Wolverine struggling to get to Jean to stab her was laughably bad. I laughed. I laughed because his shirt disintegrated, but not his pants (he has super pants?). I laughed because it was ludicrious that he would stab her to death rather than stabbing her with one of those cure darts lying around. (Well, ok, maybe he was afraid it would disintegrate into him and then he'd be dead and she'd rampage, but seriously they could have worked something out!) I mean it was very dramatic with her uneviling and then falling back over his arm all dramatic like, but I was just like, "What about Scott!" because I am determined to be the sole person who cares. I resented the movie trying to make me care abou their amazing love or whatever when no one cares about Scott. Wouldn't she care? "I've made a huge mistake." Also if they'd "cured" her, then Magneto's reveal of the cure wearing off would have had more "dun dun dun!" because it would have meant the eventual return of Crazy Phoenix (who is inside Jean all along and totally not a seperate entity, because we do not have time for spaaaaace.) If there's a Wolverine spinoff, is it going to be him all emo and moping or will it weirdly be like none of this ever happened? I am very skeptical of the spinoff, despite the undeniable lure of Hugh Jackman.

I'm mostly pissed about Rogue. She never even got to fly! Maybe if they'd let her fly she wouldn't have been so keen to get cured. And have gross icebabies. Or whatever. Gross.

Anyone catch the bit after the credits? I forgot to stay and would like to be clued in.

I remain unsure if I am happy or sad that Gambit wasn't in the movies.

On Sunday I mostly hung with Family and then on Monday we went to the bay and there was a boat and water and I got a sunburn and really the "weekend" discussion was just an excuse to ramble a bit on X3, so there you go.

ETA: This movie sounds made of awesome. Now if only it were a MUSICAL I could die happy. (It would be like Sweeny Todd, but with singing murderous magicians played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. Because after seeing Newsies I realize it is a CRIME there is not a musical with Batman and Wolverine out there somewhere.)
