Sunday was a very fun day. We were graciously invited to take tea with
mlsdesigns and her mother and sister before dance class again. We always have a lot of fun and sometimes are nearly late for dance class. Unfortunately, this week Angela, her mother, was feeling a little poorly but seems to be on the mend. They had some relatives visiting and one of her cousins, a stunning girl, was modeling a Victorian walking dress that Megan had made. I was so struck by the craftmanship of it. I've always known that her technical skills far outshine my own so it was not a surprise. Still, it was very evident in the dress. But what really got me thinking about my own projects and style was Megan's choice of colors. I never would have chosen those colors to go together. They didn't clash or anything like that, I just tend to get caught up too much in the matchy matchy of colors and tones. But the colors in the dress absolutely worked and the result was very very expensive looking. It has inspired me to try and branch out a bit when I am considering color combinations.
The hat that went with it was exquisite. Megan is very talented when it comes to making hats. I think that she should take commissions as a little side business.
Dance class was also very fun. David is really having ball with it now. At first, he was a little unsure of himself because he had never done ballroom or anything outside of the medieval stuff we did with the SCA. But now he has loosened up and is doing really well. It also helps that we have started to remember the sequences in many of the dances. There is no class next week as everyone is going to a ball (in Wales, I think). We are not going because we came into this too late to be prepared for it. But we will be prepared for the ball in May. That will be a lot of fun and then there is the Victorian Festival in August too.
I hope we learn more quadrilles. I think they are my favorite. :)
