"I knew this was a bad idea," Emily Fisher grumbled as she left the kitchen with a huff. Standing at the sink, Tony Jarvis - her co-worker and ex-husband of three years - was fighting a smirk.

"You're the one who wanted to give this another try," he reminded her, making a face as he picked up a plate and moved it under the scalding hot water.

"I was emotional!" she hollered, spinning around when she reached the entryway. "I was being dumped on by my entire family and I was weak and silly and I don't want to do this anymore." Emily crossed her arms and nodded sharply, giving him her serious stare.

"Because I called you a slob?" Tony asked, motioning to the pile of dirty dishes in the sink.

"I've been working three days and nights. Straight," she reminded him. Of course, he knew that, because he'd been at her side for all but the twelve minutes she had been in the public restroom with the two girls under her care.

Tony flipped off the faucet and wiped his hands on a towel as he walked toward her. He fought another smirk, noting that she'd effectively backed herself against the door. "Doesn't change the fact that you’re a slob," he said with the slightest hint of a growl.

"And you're a shining example of cleanliness?" she snapped back, straightening slightly as he moved closer. "I've been in your truck," she added before he could reply.

"I keep an organized mess," Tony told her, stopping just in front of her and crossing his arms to match her stance. "You're just a slob." With a nod toward the living and dining room areas, his raised eyebrow added to the proof of his statement.

It wasn't a complete mess, but living alone gave a person the freedom to put stuff wherever they wanted, in a place convenient to them finding it later. But, perhaps, she had let convenience go just a little longer than necessary.

"Well, this is what you get," Emily finally said with a shrug. "You knew that when you married me and you knew that when you-"

"Gave you the space you wanted," Tony interjected before she could finish, completely with raised eyebrow. He had, after all, been against the divorce from the first hint. Emily glanced down for a moment and took a breath, then looked up again.

"So, what are you gonna do?" she asked, rather nonchalant, though the spark in the air had her a little nervous. Tony took a deep breath and stepped back, giving the living room table - piled high with unopened bills, cups and glasses of different sizes, and even a pile of Kleenex - and pursed his lips.

"Well," he sighed, "you'll just have to be retrained." Turning back to Emily, Tony nodded and dropped his arms. "First lesson," he said in a low tone as he closed the gap between them, pinning her against the door, "the proper way to leave a trail of clothes on the floor."
