Kehnder hurried down the pathways of the ancient city. Though the war was looming closer, the city was as vibrant and alive as ever. With every step, his anger was rising, and he wanted to shoot bursts of magic at the walls, until they were as destroyed as he felt.

'Nothing but lies' repeated in his mind, thinking about all the stories his mother told him growing up. None of it was true. As he passed a harried-looking soldier, fresh from the field of battle, Kehnder took the man's arm. "Any word from the Stone Mountains?" he demanded. He knew the squad had been headed that way, following the last assault.

"Passed a squad headed that way on the Underground, two days ago," the soldier mentioned. He had an official case slung over one shoulder, signifying his current task as courier. Kehnder nodded to the man and turned toward the outer gate.

When he reached the flight master, Kehnder conjured up a scroll and imprinted a message only another Mage could read. Closing it up, Kehnder passed it off, with an order for the swiftest delivery possible. Hopefully, the note would catch up to the party before they were in battle. As he watched the note head out, Kehnder took a deep breath and, for the first time, didn't know what to do next.

Three days later, Aderina gave the goblin a look as he announced he had something for her. She was skeptical, but took the scroll and wondered who it was really meant for. Moving over to a rock at the edge of the campsite, she watched as the rest of the squad sorted through supplies.

Opening the note, Aderina's eyes narrowed at the blank page, then flinched slightly as the words started to appear, and she recognized the scrawl of Kehnder hand...
