The Leafs lost by a single goal again. Don't exactly have the warm-fuzzies about this year's team at this point.
Today was spent being lazy, punctuated by an early-show viewing of
Corpse Bride. I enjoyed each of the 90 minutes of the movie. It wasn't quite the same as it's predecessor in that it didn't try to be a black-fairytale and, instead, tried more to be a black-romantic comedy. Which was weird, considering Burton's propensity toward the fairytale style story. But in the end, Corpse Bride does what it promises and provides enough of that Halloween flavor to really make it suit my tastes. Others might be disappointed though. 3.5/5
I've got my hopes up for a job prospect that was passed my way at the funeral on Friday. A cousin on my dad's side of the family (the side we never see) is a big-wig (ick, I hate that term) at Tim Horton's corporate head office. He said that they're "always looking for IT folks in Oakville and they just opened a new office in Guelph and could quite possibly need people for there". I was told to put his name on my resume as a reference and that it would carry a lot of weight. Very promising. All I need to do now is learn a few things about Lotus Notes and I'll be fine.
I've given Black & White 2 a good few hours of play and, at this point, am not all that impressed with it. I could see how some folks might really get into the slow, deliberate game play that the underlying mechanic seems to promote. I could also see how some folks would get off on the whole "I'm a god, fear me" thing. But, for me, it just plays like a sluggish RTS with little focus and a questionable storyline. The visuals are nice, however, and it's fairly obvious that a lot of AI work has gone in to various parts of the game. The training and growing of your little pet/avatar creature has some appeal, and this is where the AI work really shines. Where it falls on its face, however, is in the movements of whatever opponents the storyline has you facing off with. All too often their troops will meander around ineffectively while you launch an all out invasion from one distinct direction. If you buy only one empire sim/RTS game this year, it better be
Civ IV. If you buy 2, though, you could do worse than
Black & White 2. 3/5
Alright, Ghostbusters is on TBS. Must go.
