Fuck,
finally! Mind you, it barely counts when it was only Philadelphia who are to the Atlantic what the Leafs are in the Northeast (read: dead last). Still, a win is a win. I'll take it.
Had a brief doctor's appointment to get the ball rolling (again) on getting an insulin pump. I figure that since I'm out of work, I might as well apply my free time to getting that done and cleared away. Of course, I have to go back to the lab for more blood-work, which I hate. It makes me pass out.
We played
Arkham Horror tonight during our regular Tuesday game night. Fun game. Especially once you get passed the considerable learning curve. There's a lot to it, and it's pretty much all important for the game to unfold properly. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect is the fact that it's co-operative. The players work together against a (randomly drawn) adversary (it was Cthulhu himself tonight) who manifests after a certain number of events and encounters resolve unless, of course, the players stop him. In other words, it's really the players vs. the game mechanic (random stacks of cards and an interesting automated monster-movement mechanic) insofar as you even have the ability to play "solitaire" if that kind of thing floats your boat. Fantasy Flight has done a good job at stitching the feel of the Mythos into the game, and many of our staple favorites make an appearance (though no Deep Ones, oddly enough). There is a sanity syste, an Arkham Asylum, plenty of Elder Signs, spells, and other-worldly travels. What more could a Mythos-minded boardgamer ask for?
Next week, we'll try it again armed with a greater understanding of the rules and a far stronger sense of strategy.
If anyone is interested, it appears as though we're going to try to get a Battlefield 2 session in on Thursday. I probably won't have the Teamspeak server setup at that point, so organization will likely occur through Messenger. If anyone is interested in joining in and/or have friends who are interested, comment and we'll get it all sorted out.
Now, to bed and book. Later.
