1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I went to Thailand, learned some Thai, moved into an apartment by myself, finished my Princess Peach costume, and applied for a Fulbright. THAT SHIT WAS HARD.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Ha! I make no resolutions.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My stepsister did, but we aren't close.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My guinea pig died in September, and I was devastated. That was a really hard month. People I knew died, but we were not close.
5. What countries did you visit?
Thailand and Cambodia. I got to be in the Narita airport again for like, two hours, and IT WAS GLORIOUS. I bought many snacks that I had missed.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
FRENS. Half-kidding. I'd like to be somewhere that is a little more in line with my political ideology, because I think it would be easier to actually get out and do something other than go to a bar and drink. Really, having options to do something besides drink.
7. What date(s) from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory?
May 18, 2009. That was the day I started my interning in Thailand, and it was some special shiz for me.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my internship. Yeah, that was about the only achievement of the year. :D
9. What was your biggest failure?
Kinda giving up on trying to make certain things work. I got tired of forcing myself to go out and be uncomfortable, so I just stopped going out at all.
10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Same mystery affliction I've had for the last 3 years. THANKS, DOCTORS I APPRECIATE THE HELP WAIT NO I DON'T. Another kidney stone or two.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A wool hat. It is warm and fabulous.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I am so bad at this question.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My mom's. But doesn't it always?
14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, food, vaccinations.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My internship! I was super excited. No one else really was, but that's all right, it wasn't their thing.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I hate this question, because I listen to the same music + more, so there's never really any one song that I'm like YEAHHHH IT'S 2009. Bad Romance by Lady Gaga?
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
1. Happier or sadder?
Sadder, I think. It's been a difficult semester.
2. Thinner or fatter?
About the same, I think.
3. Richer or poorer?
Not entirely sure.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
WHY AM I DEPRESSED EVERY YEAR STOP THAT SELF. Doing shit on time! I am such a fucking procrastinator. I am doing it now!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being anti-social. I do this a lot, I think.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I went to my grandparents' on the 23rd, and then was snowed in to my mom's place for a few days. My sister was stuck there, too, which was kinda fun, because we actually got to spend time together, but it sucked because we both had lots of shit we needed to do.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Not really. I mean, same as last year. I've been with the same person for almost 3 years now.
22. How many one-night stands?
None. My track record stands. 23 YEARS IN A ROW.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Probably Avatar: The Last Airbender. Same as last year. OH HO HO.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yeah, you know, I do. Hate is too strong a word, but there are people I don't really want to talk to anymore, because they were cruel when their friends needed help, and that is shit.
25. What was the best book you read?
I HAVE NO IDEA. Did I read books this year?
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Probably Lady Gaga. I didn't like her much at first, but now I think she is just wonderful.
27. What did you want and get?
International internship, a new job, tea, an apartment, warm hats.
28. What did you want and not get?
A diagnosis, a scanner, and motivation.
29. What did you not want, or not know you wanted, but got anyway?
I have no idea right now. Little oranges. Those things are delicious.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
PONYO. It was great. But then again, I don't think Studio Ghibli makes bad films, so... yeah.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23 this year, and I didn't do much. I was snowed into my mom's place. My sister and I drank long islands and my mom looked at wedding dresses for Heather.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Finding some fucking motivation. STOP BEING SO LAZY.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
GODDAMNIT I AM COLD.
34. What kept you sane?
"Your face" jokes.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
King Bhumibol Adulyadej, honestly. Before going to Thailand, I didn't know anything about the king, besides that he didn't have any legal power. After going, while I still have problems with him, I admire his work and how dedicated he has been as a ruler. Thailand is not free of problems, but because of the king, things have changed for the better.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Women's rights, environmental stuff. HIPPIE FUN TIMES AWAIT.
37. Who did you miss?
URRVRYWON. I don't get to see many people anymore, so I miss you guys :D
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I give this honor to Lorelei, because SHE IS THE SHIT. Her and Soom. They were both awesome.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
The worst they can do is say no. And laugh at you and mock you, but really, the rejection is what's going to hurt the most, so just do it. Resources allowing, of course.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I NEVER HAVE ONE OF THESE.
