if i don't get up in the morning my mom leaves me at the house.  doesn't come in and say "i'm leaving," just leaves.  i suppose that's okay.  it's not her responsibility to make sure i'm at school.

i still wish she would.

frustration, school, mom

I disagree. You're 17. It's still her responsibility.

I'm sorry Morgan... ♥

I agree that she is old enough to get up on her own, but it is still her mother's responsibility to get her high school aged child to school. As far as I'm concerned, until a kid graduates high school they are still their parent's responsibility. Granted, if Morgan is having THAT hard of a time waking up she needs a swift kick in the ass, but that doesn't make it okay for her mom to just up and leave her kid without a way to her classes.

Obviously, she relies on her mother's transportation to get to school that is 8 miles away, so it is unacceptable to me that a parent would just leave their kid without a way to get there. Sure, if the school was a block away then that would be different, but how is it encouraging your child to go to school when you just up and leave, not say anything (more than once), and expect any kid to get up and walk 8 miles? That's just giving a free ride ( ... )

What! my mom used to wake me up for school by dumping water on my head (im a heavy sleeper)... did you walk to school? the average person walks 2 mph, at that speed it would take nearly 4 hours to walk that distance.. but you probably rode your bike.. right? so what, maybe a little less than an hour of a trip?

I walked. Started at 8, reached school at 10. Still felt I should have reached it earlier, but oh well. It started raining on the way as well. Awesome luck. I was thinking about how Luke runs like seven miles a day and I did eight like I was climbing Monadnock!

My two cents:

Yes, at seventeen you are old enough to know that in order to catch a ride, you need to be up at a certain time.

- BUT -

I think that it would be courteous of your mother to give you a warning - i.e. "I'm leaving in 30 mins". I mean, there are going to be days you sleep through your alarm - I do it - and it would be nice to know that your mother cares enough about you to try to give you a fighting chance to make that ride to school. It's one thing if you were out to all hours the night before drinking and smoking trees and you crawled into bed reeking of reefer and rum at 5AM and couldn't get up at 7 because you were still drunk...but it's quite another if you legitimately need an extra poke in the morning to get you moving. 'Cause seriously, starting the day with your mom leaving you behind because you accidentally overslept is a miserable way to start the day.

I'm sorry, Girlie. I hope your day gets better. **hugs**
