trying to learn to walk like the heroes we thought we had to be

Oct 08, 2015 13:04

Last night, when I got home, my internet was once again super spotty - it told me I was connected but it couldn't actually load any websites, so I called TWC and the stupid recording was like, "We will reauthorize your modem! You must unplug your router and then plug it in again after 15 seconds!" So I did that and...my router never came back on. Also, my modem never rebooted (but I had already done that! Numerous times! For once, it is not the modem!). Luckily, I was still mostly dressed, so I pulled my shoes back on and went to Best Buy at 7:30 last night to buy a new router. The last time I had to buy a new router was September 2013, so 2 years ago. I guess that's their lifespan? Or maybe it's me. Technology hates me.

I set it up and it seems to be working, though for a while it was still so goddamn slow. And NBC Sports was pixelating, and so was DisneyHD and ugh, SO ANNOYING. So I was getting irritated as I checked on all the connections and I maybe yanked on the cable a little hard, and all of a sudden things started working properly again. I don't even know. *hands* So I got to watch the last period of the Rangers game without technical aggravation, and they won! I was especially glad they won last night, though their (lack of) defense was giving me agita.

Instead of hockey, I watched the season premiere of Arrow, which was titled "Green Arrow." FUCKING FINALLY.
OH OLIVER. *smishes him* HOW DID THEY MAKE ME LIKE HIM SO MUCH? I JUST WANT CHEF!OLLIE ALL THE TIME. FIVE MEALS HE COOKED FOR FELICITY. FIVE TEAM ARROW DINNERS THAT WERE INTERRUPTED BY VILLAINS (AND ONE WHERE THEY MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO DESSERT). FIVE TIMES HE TRIED TO PROPOSE AND GOT INTERRUPTED (AND ONE TIME FELICITY PROPOSED TO HIM).*

*credit where credit is due, these are mostly
angelgazing's ideas, but I also want them (without having to write them myself. well, maybe the five meals one, I could write. Just, HOME COOK OLLIE. CHECKING OUT PINTEREST AND DRINKING WHITE WINE WHILE HE STIRS THE RISOTTO. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO READ THAT.)

I could watch hours of domestic lovebird Olicity. I am just saying. Haters can suck it.

I loved that it was Felicity who couldn't let go of the superheroing, that it gave her purpose that being acting Palmer Industries CEO didn't. (I want to know why they couldn't make Brandon Routh Ted Kord last season, but Kord Industry trucks etc. are okay.) I loved Amanda Waller being 'just folks' and having a drink with Ollie except no, of course she's going to drug him and kidnap him and drop him back on Lian Yu. Though there better be a Russian mob outpost there because I want the sure to be hilaribad story of Oliver and Anatoly in the Bratva. I feel like I deserve that entertainment after the terrible flashbacks last season. I loved Thea as Speedy ("I told you, it's RED ARROW."), and I'm sure her overly aggressive fighting will be tied to her dip in the Lazarus Pit. (I wish the fights with her weren't quite so sloppy - did they get a new fight coordinator or was it just an off day? Because even when everything else is not good, the fights on this show are usually on point.)

As much as it hurt to watch, I like that Dig hasn't forgiven Oliver, though Lyla has. (HOW CUTE ARE THE DIGGLES AND THEIR DIGLET?) It makes me sad, but Dig wasn't completely wrong, and Oliver knew it. (Though come on, Dig, I know you're probably thinking that keeping HIVE to yourself is giving Oliver a taste of his own medicine, or maybe you think you can deal with it on your own, but EVERYBODY PLEASE STOP WITHHOLDING INFORMATION. IT'S SO ANNOYING AND IT NEVER ENDS WELL.) Though Oliver's trying now, he's going to try to be a symbol of hope instead of just an avatar of fear. Ugh, so many superhero feels. I especially loved Oliver claiming the new suit and the new name. ICONIC.

So we're looking at Mayor Oliver Queen when this is all over, right? With everyone knowing he's Green Arrow and no one else wanting the job? I mean, I'm just guessing, but that looks like what's going to happen. And it gives him some legitimacy, a job with some income, and also it happened in the comics, which I know is not necessary (especially since I really hope they've truly given up on the idea of Oliver/Laurel as an endgame pairing), but it does mean there's precedent.

Given my fears for Felicity, I'm sure I'm supposed to think that's her grave (see also the iconic comics pairing for Oliver), but I refuse. I also refuse to accept that it's Diggle's, but if it's Felicity's I might have to quit the show. In addition to refusing to accept that, I also don't believe Barry would miss her funeral, but if it's Detective Captain Lance, which is what I'm guessing right now, given that he's being strong-armed into working with Damien Darhk, then Barry would want to show support but not be too terribly broken up about it himself.

This was a good start after the somewhat messy season 3, and I am hopeful they'll be able to pull it off. Also, there was a Supergirl commercial during the episode, which ...airs on a different network. I know they're in the same universe, and CBS is a partner in the CW, but that doesn't usually happen. I hope Supergirl is great and I hope there's a crossover at some point! (though the fact that Clark exists and Bruce doesn't still rankles. IJS.)

Also also, HOW CUTE ARE DAVID RAMSEY AND CANDICE PATTON? OH MY GOSH, THAT GUITAR HERO COMMERCIAL. I'll say this for Berlanti et al. - they sure know how to leverage their very pretty assets.
