Steve's promised Pepper that he's actually going to bring a date to her birthday party - she says she has a couple of Natasha-approved candidates if he's interested - but then there's Doombots and the Serpent Society, and an unexpected side trip to Jotunheim, and he hasn't asked anyone ( ... )

You're welcome! I enjoyed it, and not just because it mostly lines up with my own opinions.

It's just so perfect! The name! The fact that Buck Rogers slept for 400 years and woke up in the future! The fact that it was a comic strip when Steve and Bucky were kids! But I always feel like it's too on the nose, somehow. Sigh.

The memory thing with Natasha being the idiotic thing they pulled in the Winter Soldier line, or the thing they did in Secret Avengers? (Man, they really like doing stupid stuff to her memory.)

I meant Winter Soldier - I knew there was allegedly (and completely OOC, imo) consensual memory wiping in Secret Avengers, but that very premise kept me from reading it. Is it worse than that?

Oh, yes, that's the whole thing about the first five or so issues. Then they seem to have dropped it. The whole series has been interesting, but all over the map narratively, with pretty much no finishing up of any plot threads. Given that Marvel seems to be rebooting their series every years these days, it doesn't seem wise to me that writers aren't focused on telling a few stories well, instead of trying the scattershot "plot threads all over the place" thing that only works (occasionally, and not often at all) when you have about 5 years to complete them all ( ... )

Huh. Weird.

I still don't understand what Brubaker was thinking with his Winter Soldier memory thing. It was clearly just angst for angst's sake.

Yeah, it's weird. If he'd been forced out, I could maybe understand it out of spite, but it reads like he broke his toys so no one else could play with them. Or Marvel really just wanted Natasha free of romantic constraints. But the way it was done was so shitty. Like, now she doesn't even *remember*? Wtf is that?
