And I stumble to the kitchen

Ugh, I can't believe it's already June. I forgot to do the monthly roundups last night, because I was so high on ten hours of Orphan Black. So:

top 5 songs - May 2013

5. Bobby Jean - Bruce Springsteen

4. Mae - Gaslight Anthem

3. We Lost Magic - Empires

2. Adventures in Solitude - the New Pornographers

1. Blue Dahlia - Gaslight Anthem

And the monthly writing roundup for May 2013:

Cartography for Beginners (@ AO3)
Push (2009); Nick/Cassie; g; 575 words
Nick was lost, but now he's found.

Honey and Salt (@ AO3)
Avengers (2012); Steve/Bucky/Natasha; pg; 3,380 words
Bucky's not that kind of agent.

Memorial Day (@ AO3)
Captain America (2011); Steve, Gabe Jones; gen; 1,175 words
On his first Memorial Day out of the ice, Steve goes to Arlington.

Not the worst writing month ever, but not nearly the best. I don't know. I feel like I have so many other things to get done that writing has been pushed way down on the list. I hoped that once the thing with my landlord was done I might be able to get back into the swing, but now I am just going to spend the next three months worrying about where I'm going to live when my lease is up, so I don't know. I realize I'm the only one who cares, but it does worry me. Sigh.

Anyway, since I spent yesterday watching TV, I spent today cooking. Well, first I spent the morning holed up in the AC in my bedroom, since I woke up at 3am this morning with my period, and ugh, I don't mind the heat except I hate having my period when it's hot even more than I usually hate it, so I was gearing up for the day.

So I wanted to make these mini-pizzas or pizzette, as the recipe-writer calls them. But I wanted to do them with roasted garlic instead, so while the garlic was roasting, I made the dough, though I threw out the first yeast mixture because it didn't foam. The second one bubbled a little and I called it good enough, and it turned out to be fine. I mean, I just bought the yeast yesterday and it has an expiry date of 2015, so I figured it was still good and I knew I hadn't heated the milk up too much so. I made the dough and it was actually really easy. I set it aside to rise, and then removed the roasted garlic from the oven and mashed it up into a paste with a fork (I did it with pre-peeled garlic, because I am fundamentally lazy) and my apartment smelled so good!

Then I set about making busy day cake again, and this time, in my own oven, it cooked up beautifully (pic).

Then it was time to see if the dough had risen, and thankfully, it had. I followed the directions, sort of, though while I was shifting stuff around due to lack of counterspace, I knocked over the bowl with the roasted garlic in it and it shattered. Sigh. My life, so hard. So I had to clean that up, and since I had only done about half of the pizzas, I had to saute up some garlic to do the rest.

I didn't use rosemary, either. For the first batch, I put some oregano in some olive oil and brushed it on each disk of dough, then smeared some roasted garlic paste on, then a sprinkle of grated parmesan and a bit more grated mozzarella, and then a drizzle of olive oil on top.

For the ones with the sauteed garlic, I brushed that on, and sprinkled some oregano over it, then the cheeses and the drizzle of olive oil. they came out really tasty, and I got twenty mini-pizzas out of the recipe, so that was dinner tonight and lunch for the week etc. (pic) I had my oven up at 525°F, so I had the fan and the AC on, and I still had a huge smoke condition that necessitated removing the battery from the smoke alarm and opening the window even though I had the AC on. Possibly doing all this on a really hot day was not the smartest idea I've ever had, but it all worked out and now I have tasty breakfasts and lunches to take to work this week. Even if I'll have to brush my teeth immediately after lunch every day instead of sort of sometime in the afternoon if I get around to it.

So that all worked out and now I am just tired. I think I'm just gonna read til it's time for bed.
