people have died in his good name

Feb 28, 2013 10:52

This morning, the line at Starbucks was literally out the door (and I do mean literally - I was standing outside, holding the door open) but strangely enough, L. and A2 showed up on line behind me. SO WEIRD. But A and A2 are staying at a hotel near my office, and L is staying with them while they're here, I guess, so we had a random chance encounter. Tomorrow night we are actually having dinner together (tomorrow night, I am actually making dinner for them, but I have a feeling that is going to require its own separate post).

Anyway, I guess it's time for the end of the month roundups.

Comics:

Hawkeye #8: Sadly, this issue did not really work for me. I feel like Clint does not come off at all well (and not in a good way), I was disappointed at how little Natasha, Bobbi and Jessica were in it and how they were used while they were (can we let go of Jessica as jealous and crazy not-quite-girlfriend? I don't care whether they're together or not [and I don't really care if Clint screws it all up by not keeping it in his pants - that's sadly not out of character] but I'd like to see her treated better as a character instead of as a means for Clint's commitment angst [Jess, honey, go shack up with Carol. You'll be happier. And possibly get in on random hookups with Captain America.]), and there was not nearly enough Kate to make up for Clint being a total bonehead. I will say that I did like the use of pulp comics as a framing device (so cool! so spot-on!) and also as the combination for the safe, and I liked the Kingpin's little conclave and what that sets up going forward. But overall, this was a disappointment after 7 excellent issues.

Young Avengers #2: YAMBLR. SO MANY FEELS. *dies* THE RECAP PAGE WAS SO AWESOME. Also, I like that Billy's parents are likely safe (where are his little brothers?) - if Loki is telling the truth, which. Is still kind of questionable. No Kate and no America. Sigh. But the Scarlet mom line was pretty funny.

TV:

White Collar
Ainsley! Sadly, Ainsley is a bad guy. I wouldn't have minded having her as the real new boss instead of a corrupt one who'll be brought down in the season finale (I am just guessing; I don't know any spoilers), though I am sort of tired of the martinet lady boss trying to rein in her maverick guy agents as a trope. I guess Peter will end up being offered the job at the end of the season finale? But who knows. I enjoyed Peter's enjoyment of the con (and his tacit knowledge of Neal's con on him), and Mozzie's ice cream stand, but mostly this was set up for the finale and kind of meh about it. Also also, if they end up making Treat Williams not actually Neal's father but a bad guy, I will be more impressed, since the father thing was SO OBVIOUS.

Arrow
I would like Flashback Island a lot more if Slade went around doing shirtless pullups all the time. I am just saying. I also enjoyed Diggle and Felicity sparring etc. I ship it. Well, I ship them both with Oliver, too, but altogether, Team Arrow OT3. Plus Alex Kingston as original flavor Dinah Lance. Hopefully she'll have stuff to do, and I wouldn't mind seeing her in fishnets. I also don't really care about Tommy and his dad. *hands*
