just stand there in your wrongness and be wrong

RaceFail09 continues (more here and here). It's not even about race anymore, because white people who think their feelings about being called on their racist behavior are more important than PoCs' feelings about being subject to racist behavior, have detoured the conversation into a ridiculous and hypocritical discussion of why people who use pseuds online are somehow EVIL and WRONG.

Which, I do not even know what the fuck is WRONG with these people, except that they are too dumb to live, and yet... we are apparently stuck with them (though the banhammer and killfile do help).

The conflation of pseudonymity with anonymity, the sheer stupidity and hypocrisy of the arguments used to justify outing someone who has chosen to keep her online life and her professional and/or personal life separate, and the insistence that they be apologized to when they were the people who fucked up and were wrong in the first place is such a huge display of ass-baring entitlement and privilege that I don't even have words. (more here)

I've known coffeeandink for quite a few years now - we are not close by any means, but I've had her on my flist forever, and met her in person at fan gatherings from time to time, and I respect and admire her a lot, and the fact that one of our brightest lights and smartest voices is being attacked for no reason whatsoever except that she argues clearly and cogently against people being entitled, racist assholes on the internet makes me really sad and angry.

If you think it's okay to out someone because they disagree with you, or because they said something that hit a little too close to home, or because you think their writing sucks, or because they use their real first name online, you're just wrong. Just stand there in your wrongness and be wrong.
