3. Being allowed to stay up occasionally (and usually fall asleep during) Fantasy Island left me with a skewed memory of the show as really creepy. I am sure now I'd just find it cheesy, but then, it definitely kind of creeped me out. Huh.

Craziness: I read a review of the S1 Fantasy Island DVD set that said it really *is* creepy, which was the original intent of the series. Sort of spooky and be-careful-what-you-wish-for. It was the later seasons that got frothy. So your memories may not be inaccurate! *g* (BTW, I was also a Love Boat/Fantasy Island child, although I usually forced myself to stay awake until Weekend Update on SNL. I had a mad thing for any character Gilda Radner did.)
