in the midst of those battles, he does not lose himself

I've been trying to figure out what to say about the season finale of Friday Night Lights. I'm just so overwhelmed with how good this show is, and how real, even when it's predictable and following the rules of television drama.

Yeah, Mo Ryan reported that as well. I think it's good news. I hope.

I keep telling myself that it's good and healthy to read and/or address negative comments about the show, because it is, after all, just a TV show and I should know better than to let people on the Internets affect my blood pressure (much, anyway). But some of that Onion thread was just too goddamn ridiculous. I had to click right out of it.

I don't think I'm even processing the finale yet. I wish it didn't have to be over already!

Yeah, the problem with most of those commenters seemed to be that those people had watched one episode of the show and were extrapolating from that, and really, I don't think that works with this show. I realize that sounds like a copout, but this show is like a novel and needs to be watched in order and paid attention to. It's not as dense or complex as The Wire, but it does share some similarities with it in that sense.

YES! Someone to gush with! :vbg: This was one of the best hours of television I've ever watched.

Oh, man! How often did you cry? I cried when they were pulling up to the stadium, the way they filmed that, with the sliding shots on EVERYONE, including the coaches, and the disbelief on their faces and then when they walked into the locker room, oooooh man. ALL the cinematography was in top form here, the wide open shot when they came intothe stadium almost took my breath away ( ... )

I teared up when Tami was talking to Mama Smash, and again when she told Eric, and when Eric did his big speech in the locker room, and possibly when Matt came over and was all, "Run this play!"

I'm still kind of shocked they let them win the game. I was sure they weren't going to.

So tonight, when they were riding in the parade (more tears!) and THIS team pointed their rings back out at the alumni. (sigh) It was perfect and, like Jason said, full-circle.

Yes. I really liked how the ending came back around - the use of "Devil Town," the rings, Coach driving to the school while being ragged on on the radio...

And, yes, on the one hand, I hope madly that NBC renews it...but on the other hand, I also feel like no season (literally and figuratively) will ever have the resonance and hope and fear and just sense of ... achievement that this one had. One season would, in a way, kind of be perfect.Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I kind of don't want to see it not live up to this season, and I fear it couldn't. How could it? How could it ( ... )
