in the midst of those battles, he does not lose himself

I've been trying to figure out what to say about the season finale of Friday Night Lights. I'm just so overwhelmed with how good this show is, and how real, even when it's predictable and following the rules of television drama.

I teared up when Tami was talking to Mama Smash, and again when she told Eric, and when Eric did his big speech in the locker room, and possibly when Matt came over and was all, "Run this play!"

I'm still kind of shocked they let them win the game. I was sure they weren't going to.

So tonight, when they were riding in the parade (more tears!) and THIS team pointed their rings back out at the alumni. (sigh) It was perfect and, like Jason said, full-circle.

Yes. I really liked how the ending came back around - the use of "Devil Town," the rings, Coach driving to the school while being ragged on on the radio...

And, yes, on the one hand, I hope madly that NBC renews it...but on the other hand, I also feel like no season (literally and figuratively) will ever have the resonance and hope and fear and just sense of ... achievement that this one had. One season would, in a way, kind of be perfect.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I kind of don't want to see it not live up to this season, and I fear it couldn't. How could it? How could it match how awesome this season has been? And yet, I'm not ready to give these characters up yet. I want more of their stories...
