I haven't been this physically sore from a concert in a very long time. What are whiney 14-year-olds doing on our campus? Oh wait, they came to see a terrible pop band. And then I just had to be kicked in the right temple of my head whilst one of those lovely children crowd surfed. Kids these days...
In a more nonlinear fashion, the Dredg concert was awesome. The two opening bands were dull -- Ours didn't even play the only song I know by them. But Dredg was phenomenal and came out with lots of energy, loud rocking, and fast guitar strumming. I was just a little disappointed they didn't play Sanzen or Whoa Is Me, but they played almost everything else, including The Canyon Behind Her, which was way sweet. Smelling like ganja wasn't too appealing, but beggers can't be choosers.
Leann and I went to see Between Land and Sea: A Selkie Myth Friday night. Though not as good as previously seen plays, I still enjoyed it. Especially the set design: crazy lighting and 'seaweed' draping the the rafters during the ocean scenes. Very cool, brough a smile to me face.
I GOT A JOB AT A RADIO STATION FOR THE SUMMER! Thanks to the input of Bryan, I landed a position at 104.3 WCZY, a very local light hits station. Yes, it's not a huge deal, and the music isn't really good, but it's a professional job and I can finally see what it's like in the 'real' broadcasting world of radio.
On Saturday, Leann and I drove to SVSU to chill with Darren and Co. (sans Scott, the douche), and then we went to see Dashboard Confessional on the campus. John Ralston Band opened (just like the last DC concert), but the cool thing was that instead of just Chris Carraba (which was supposed to be the deal), it was the whole band. So that was a nice surprise. The set was much like the MSU set, but still great -- For You to Notice and Remember to Breathe are simply amazing songs to hear live. After the show we had a mini-party at Darren's, and he carried me across the floor at one point because I pretended the floor was lava. Oh yes, tis true.
At the last desk meeting in my life, Frank gave me an award for being most professionally dressed. Which is very sarcastic. As we speak (speak?), I'm wearing sandals. You rock, mid-3.
Back to the present (not the future), today was freaking awesome. Not only because it was the last day of classes, but because I spent the afternoon with Kristine and Anthony interviewing Over It, Mae, and Yelloward (but I didn't actually go with them for Yellowcard). The two guys we talked to from Over It were awesome, and even though Kristine and I only got to interview Zach from Mae, it was still really cool. Just being around the tour buses and talking with the band members... it was great, I wish I was a musician. Best part = Zach made fun of Yellowcard.
A brief situation that occurred before going into Rose Arena = me HUSTLING A HUSTLER!
I was in dire need of selling my unneeded, already-paid-for ticket, when suddenly my angel (not quite) appeared: an elderly black man, wanting to buy extra tickets for later scalping. So, I transacted with him. He said he'd give me ten, that's it.... I paused.... said I'd maybe wait for a few minutes for a better price.... he ups his offer to $12. Boomshakala, bitches.
The actual concert was rather enjoyable, as well. Anthony and I got special passes that allowed us to skip the line of people waitling to get in (leaving Frankles to go to said line, alone). So after seeing sweet-cat Ryan *insert Polish last name*, us two got onto the floor of Rose and got right up in the front by the bars. Once the other, less-cool people were allowed in, all the high-schoolers poured in. MAN are they cool! Over It took the stage and were surprisingly really good and energetic, I look forward to listening to their album. Then Mae came out, and really rocked the house. I got lots of great pics and vids because of my position in the crowd and my height. Although they didn't play Anything or The Ocean, I loved the show -- I'd love to see them play when they're headlining. Then Yellowcard came out, blah blah blah, teen-girls screaming, pop-crap music, annnnnnd we left.
All in all, a fantastic way to end classes. God, can't I ever write a concise entry? I hate LiveJournal, seriously.
I'd rather be ridin' spinners.
