So, my parents and brother came to visit me in Chicago, and it was quite an adventure. We had to stay in the suburbs because all of the hotels in the city were full (it was opening weekend for the Cubs). I think their favorite part of the trip was the suburb, Skokie, where Northlight is. :) They were only here a little while, but I did get to show them a few cool things:
1) My apartment...they really liked it and I was proud b/c I felt very grown up. :)
2) My show at the Citadel Theatre - the first they'd seen in two years!
3) My two favorite restaurants - Flat Top Grill (which MTS experienced), and Cafe Iberico, a tapas place
4) The Second City review - which was very different b/c there were lots of understudies, but I did get to see Molly Erdman. My folks were shocked by some of the humor, but I think it did them good. :)
5) The Play - the IO does this show that is basically like watching a play, only it was improvised. It was so natural, but absolutely hilarious. It had a lot of really great points and the improvisers were incredibly skilled. John Karpinos, from Show Pony and Choke Up, was in it and he was really cool. Also saw Bill Cochran, which is always fun.
6) The Cubs - who sucked and lost really bad, but our seats were awesome and the stadium is beautiful. We also got to stand in the 7th inning and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," which was definitely the best part of the game, in my opinion.
For my family, the weather was a little cold, the walks a little too long, and the traffic very congested, but I was glad for them to see a little of my life here. I don't know how long I will stay...life can be crazy and unpredictable, but I'm definitely glad for what Chicago has given me so far, and am about to go enjoy her city streets as we speak!
My love to everyone in Clemson and elsewhere. :)
