Many Happy Returns!

For the 42 Matriarch, in Honor of Her X8th Birthday
A currently tuneless song from her favorite eldest daughter

Our lives are lived inside us,
Within our plaster walls abide
Clocks instead of sunlight guides us
Duodecisected faces shine.
Our heads are lowered daily
Against turmoil and disarray,
Attempting to endure it gaily,
When asked, we say we're doing fine.

Look up! There's a great big sky overhead.
Look up! It's black and blue and red.
And though there may be rain instead
Of sunshine some of these days,
Disjoin your eyes from flattened screens
Imbibe the sunlit golds and greens
Enjoy that which is rarely seen
By those who no longer play.

In your mug, a pen with feathers
Shivers in a puff of breath
For adding two and two together
And tickling tantrums away.
Stomping foam darts ever skyward,
Holding hands to help them fly,
The comforter of spirits wayward
Sometimes needs to get away.

Look up! There's a great outside around.
Look up! For wonders there abound,
So much of it already found,
And some for future days.
Enjoy the beauties that you've got
Enshrined within your secret spot
Your place that even time forgot;
Go forth, enjoy, and play!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Love,
