I just made one of the best soups ever. Whole Foods was selling fish frames (heads, tails, skeletons - all full of meat) for $.99/lb (in contrast to the $14.99/lb fillets I also bought). Made stock out of the frames, took the flesh off before it got too cooked, and tossed the bones back in the pot. Sauteed some onions, added some potatoes I cooked last night. Added a can of chopped tomatoes, the stock and the fish, along with some thyme from my garden, a little salt, a lot of pepper. Let it heat up. Ate it with a hunk of last night's challah. (Oh, I forgot to mention that I strained the fish broth befoe I added the rest of the ingredients. Having to stop in mid soup-slurp to extract fishbones from one's mouth kinda ruins the mood.)
O lordy mama. As good as anything I've ever eaten at any price.
glorious food,
