Fuck Chicago

I have confirmed the hypothesis proposed by Scott and I for years:

There really is no good time to head through Chicago. It just sucks.

But this time, I was there to help move my bro into his new apartment uptown. So my entire weekend has been helping him get his shit from one place to the next.

So my dad and I headed out Friday night, after dropping my jeep off with my mom and stealing her van. It got better gas mileage and didn't have deathwobble, so we figured it'd be better. On the way, we came to the conclusion that people in IL and IN can't fucking drive. 3 people were driving with their parking lights on at night. Another didn't have his on completely. There was an accident on I-94 West, and so a guy saw this and from the left lane cut a right turn in front of TWO SEMIS to exit. And by right turn, I mean he quite literally turned 90 degrees to exit. At the accident scene, there's an onramp and a guy tried edging in as my dad was behind a semi. Guy almost side swiped us the first time in his aggressiveness. So he sped up, angled in, and we couldn't move forward without hitting him. We both gave him the finger, he gave it back. My dad and I have concluded that if it was his truck... he wouldn't have cared as he'd just be replacing a bumper. If it was my jeep... he'd have rubbed a wheel and I'd have driven onto the hood of his car.

But alas, we had a van we couldn't break :(

Got into chicago, crashed for the night... about 4am my bro and his gf get up to let the gf's mom in. Apparently she heard my dad and I were there to help them move, so she HAD to be there. But this meant she'd bitch about getting only 2 hours of sleep becuase we started at 6am to start moving.

We didn't finish until 10pm at night. That's when we finally got dinner. It was one HELL of a long day that I'm still sore from. Legs, back, arms, feet... I basically just ache all over. But it's because it was raelly only my bro, dad, and I moving things. Well... anything over 15lbs, as the one mother would bitch about it being "too heavy" and me wanting to beat the hell out of her for being useless and mostly in the way.

But we finished it, and drove back today. Was a good weekend, if a bit rough. A few quotes from the drive:

(on I-94 East, around exit 88, which is Climax)
Me: We should get off here
Dad: [smirks]
Me: What? Too soon?
Dad: Well, I suppose we could eat there.

(on 294 heading south)
Dad: [notices a truck with branches in the back] Oh, he must be opening up a BRANCH office
Me: I think you're going out on a limb there.
Dad: What? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Me: I'll leaf that one alone
Dad: Just don't pine over it.

So if you wonder why I am how I am. Blame him. :P
