Since NOVA instructors are all non-Japanese, it's interesting to see their respective embassies getting involved. According to
this post on JapanProbe, the Australians are getting the best treatment from their government with an offer of emergency loans to foreign nationals in tight spots. Not a whole lot - maybe AU$150, but it's better than nothing.
New Zealanders aren't getting money, but they are getting advice and support on finding work and/or unemployment options. The British embassy is offering help contacting family and friends back home. No word yet on the American or Canadian front, though.
