matociquala Not sure what it means, since there were quite a few questions that appeared, to me, to be a little ridiculous. "Do you find it very hard to learn things that you are not interested in?" Most people do, yeah. I've yet to meet the person who says, "You know, I really hate math and math class. But I aced the test. Go figure." Unless this is weighted negatively and if you can easily learn things you're not interested in then you're a little off-kilter.
Or this one: "Do you feel stressed in unfamiliar situations?" Again, yeah. Everyone feels stressed in unfamiliar situations. The better question should be what one does with that stress. Do you shut down and panic, all sweaty palms and stammering? Or do you put that energy into figuring out your situation and adapting yourself?
My favorite: "Are you affected negatively by high air humidity combined with hot weather?" Everyone in Kyoto answers yes to this one, I know that.
This kind of thing just reinforces my opinion that a good majority of the people who claim to have one "syndrome" or another are just trying to cover up flaws in themselves that they cannot accept. Our commonly accepted view of "normal" is a very narrow one these days, and rather than teach these people to accept who they are and to celebrate the endless variation of human experience, we try to jam them into the "normal" mold. Nobody is allowed to have negative personality traits - to be boring or shy or hyper or an asshole - anymore. They all have to have something "wrong" with them, and that pisses me off to no end.
There are people out there who have legitimate problems living in the world, problems that interfere with their and others' lives, and they should be helped. But if you like your office to be well-organized, you do not have OCD. You're well-organized. If you can't stay focused in a class, you do not have ADD. You're bored. And if you feel uncomfortable dealing with strangers, you do not have Asperger's. You're shy. You're human. Accept it, accept who you are and stop letting the psycho-pharmaceutical media juggernaut try to tell you that you're wrong. You're you. Enjoy it, because it's a limited time offer.
