First of all, holy fuck are there a lot of cops in West Texas! We drove through El Paso last night and the freeway runs right next to the Mexican border. We saw a cop every 10 miles or so, and those are just the ones we saw. They have black cars and stay pretty well hidden with their lights off. We didn't see another car going in our direction for probably 60 miles. Then, just as the freeway starts to turn away from the border they put a nice little inspection checkpoint. Again, only car for 60 miles and with 100 cops along this stretch of road SOMEBODY'S got to be bored. It was midnight and all four of us were WIDE awake. Thanks Homeland Security.
Well then, Flagstaff. The drive was easy, about eight hours from LA. Flagstaff is at over 7000 feet so it's beautiful and cold still at this time of year. There was still a bit of snow but the sun was nice and warm. We played at a house that has had many awesome bands over the years, including many from Bellingham. The kids there were super nice and we couldn't have been treated better. We played in a cozy but full basement to our best audience ever. They were dancing and energetic and even moshed to our "slowest" song. It was incredible! The cops came before the last band could play which apparently never happens but the smokers outside must have been too loud because the basement is extremely well insulated. Flagstaff was amazing, hopefully I'll be back to play there again.
Someone in the house had the sweetest golden retriever mix puppy, I wanted to take her home.
I'm sitting in a pink hotel in Van Horn, TX. We should make it to Austin by early evening.
