Dance

---

When I was young, perhaps only 11 or 12, and my ecole was having a dance. As it was my first dance so I remember that moment and everything about the day so clearly.

Floating across the dance floor as if on the top of a cloud, I barely noticed anything outside of his arms around me and his brilliant blue eyes staring deep into mine. One of the most charming young men in my school was my partner and I was delighted with the music being played as well as with the company I was keeping. All of that was soon to change as a set of forceful hands grabbed me and pulled me away from my partner nearly tossing me to the ground in front of my other classmates.

"She's not good enough for you," I heard a voice say to my partner very low as if the voice's owner were trying to hide her displeasure while saving as much face as possible.

"How would you know if she is or she isn't good enough for me? "

"She is Monsieur Helsing's ward. That should be enough. I did not agree to help chaperone in order to watch you dance with that thing."

"Her name is Sophie. She is a talented musician and a good dancer."

"It does not matter, we are leaving." and she took him away. I never saw him again.
