i called your bluff, watching you is not enough

♠ Well, yes, I said I would write fic over Christmas. Apparently this was, in fact, a lie. I don't know if anyone actually cares...I admit I have been procrastinating something dreadful, and I've also been trying to kick my habit of reading fanfiction instead of actual fiction, because I like to try to read some novels with a degree of literary ( Read more... )

I think "record of fangirlish fuckery" would make an awesome tagline. XD

Oh, oh, please tell me what you think of Sherlock Holmes; I'm dying to see it. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law = totally random casting imo, but in a good way. As in, I don't know who the hell thought of making those two Holmes and Watson, but it looks like it actually works, so...kudos.

Lynn Flewelling wrote an interesting review of it recently, actually, which pretty much answered all my questions about how much it sticks to the spirit of the canon. (I trust her opinion of anything related to Sherlock Holmes, because she's obviously a devoted longtime fan and I can definitely see Conan Doyle's influence in her Nightrunner books. I like to think of Seregil as an openly gay fantasy version of Holmes, though that may be wishful thinking on my part. Nonetheless, it makes for extra fun reading ( ... )

I am sure I will rpobably arrive home at midnight and immediately write either a blistering or an incredibly fangirly review. :p Hopefully the latter. I admit I've never really read any of the actual stories (my dad and my sister both adore them, I've never gotten around to reading them), so I'm not really a purist. Unlike in the case of the new movie based on The Picture of Dorian Gray which appears to have been written and cast by somebody who never actually read the book.

It is random casting. But having never read them, I suppose I don't really have any internal idea of what they should be like. Robert Downey Jr was a pleasant surprise - I don't usually think he's attractive, but in this instance I approve. A lot. :p

Tehe, I got one of her books out of the library! Just for you. :p It's The Bone Doll's Twin, I think, or something like that. Bones and dolls feature in the title. I would go and check, but that would involve walking from the computer to my bedroom to find it, and I'm not willing to make that much of an effort. ( ... )

I think watching the movie without having read the stories is probably the best way to do it. Excitement over the movie has made me return to the canon and start rereading all my favourites, but now I'm wondering if it hasn't set me up for disappointment by re-establishing my previously-vague mental ideas of the characters and setting. I'll try to treat it like any adaptation, I guess: enjoy it as a film in itself, rather than as an interpretation of a favourite book/s.

That said, if you think the upcoming Dorian Gray is going to be painful for Wilde fans, I'll be sure not to read the novel before I see it. Alas, no, I haven't read it; my not-so-secret shame.

Hehe, I was going to say that I agree that RDJ makes an attractive Holmes, and surprisingly so, since Holmes is never really described as attractive - then I remembered that we technically see Holmes through the eyes of Watson who is totally suppressing more-than-friendly urges, if you ask me, which might account for that. :p

You have the first Tamir book! *keyboard smash of ( ... )

Well, I loved it! It was awesome. Then again, the people who say it feels a bit like fanfiction are not necessarily wrong. It does, but it feels like good fanfiction, in my opinion. I had very few preconceptions, so it all worked well for me, and the costumes are divine. I would advise trying very hard to distance yourself from the books though.

On the subject of those more than friendly urges, the slash actually writes itself in that movie. butterflygirl_3 and I have a list of our favourite slashy scenes. Let me tell you, they were abundant. It was sufficiently glaringly obvious that I couldn't help but wonder whether the non-slash fangirls were nevertheless wondering why Holmes and Watson just seemed that...cozy. Ot if not cozy, then why Holmes was acting like a jealous lover over the whole Mary thing. Still, as I was shipping them like burning anyway, I was most leased by all the subtext. :p ( ... )

It is. The scenario gets really intense though, it's all very dramatic. Though they did pull out the old 'lost memory' cliche...

I do miss Nero and Dante. Could they not make cameos?

Ichigo needs to stop taking his clothes off in the manga. It makes me feel really bad for perving. Ishida also needs to stop lookign sexy and badass. For the same reason. Byakuya needs to be around more, and I want some goddamn Shuuhei backstory in the manga NOW or I am gong to throw a hissy fit and write him however I damn well want.

...I also can't decide whether to keep the honorifics in the fic or not, damnit damnit damnit.

LOL. Ok, I shall try. I am writing Bleach fanfiction at the moment, but once I am done with that I might just return to the 53.

That icon always makes me lol. XD

I think a trip to Dymocks will be coming up soon so I too can *stumble* upon that book...Despite having a backlog of somewhere close to 80 books waiting to be read.

It's a good one to stumble across. It's also not particulalry long, so you can get through it fairly quickly. I didn't really notice the plot. I got distracted by the men.

Urgh, I have a massive backlog as well. And now I'm ignoring them all to read Bleach. Go me.
