As a teenager, not one of my favorite books was contemporary YA.

I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing how much YA is being published these days.

I resolve to read more books that aren't New York Times bestsellers.

People are idiots. Just checked the library's website: There are 3 holds on 98 physical copies of Divergent, while there are 150 holds on 28 copies of the ebook.

All right! Just sent an e-mail saying that I wanted to volunteer to help out at the library. Hopefully this will work out. It's practically a dream come true.

Bret Easton Ellis is kind of mental. But why should that shock anybody? Does an average person write American Psycho? I think not.

I'm reading The Brave: A Story of New York City's Firefighters by George Pickett. It's interesting, though not very well written, and it's really making me miss Rescue Me.

I just read three pages of the Hunger Games and it's just as bad as Twilight, possibly even worse. Because not only is it badly written, it's badly written and boring.

From the very first page: "Mashed-in nose, half of one ear missing, eyes the color of rotting squash."

I'm hoping this is evidence that the Harry Potter craze is petering out: There are 14 boys (no girls) in my friend's son's class and only my friend's son said that Harry Potter was his favorite book. All the rest chose Diary of a Wimpy Kid or some kind of sports trivia book.
