After trying to find things to do around here, I have finally resigned myself to reading books and looking at all of the interesting people that come through the office...and there are a lot of them:
-Right now, there's about 5 thick-necked marines that all talk very matter-of-factly and give me dirty looks for reading Harry Potter. One is fumbling with a cell phone, but doesn't know how to use it. They all have buzz cuts, even though they are probably in their late 40s or early 50s - maybe it's to cover up the baldness that would happen anyway. All one word answers and shortness...probably because they're used to using 4 letter words instead of full sentences...but those are all stereotypes anyway. I'm just writing what I see.
-I helped an officer from Great Britain with a fax, and although I wanted to ask him questions about London, I felt like he probably knew about as much as I did, and was also more sore about the whole sitiation. Anyway, after I helped him with the fax, he said, "Thanks, you're a rock star." Is that a common thing to say in England? Well, it's about to be a common thing in Montgomery, because that is this rock star's new compliment.
-Today was Katy Escaravage's birthday, and someone got her a birthday cake. We all went down there, and stood around and ate cake, but didn't have much to say, except for the occasional comments like: "This cake is very mooist" or "My child would really like this cake" or "Mark wants a big piece, because he's young, and young people like cake." The time was nice, but the ackwardness left me looking around for Milton...and his Swingpline.
That's all for now, because I want to get back to my Harry Potter...can't wait till Friday at midnight!
