back yard wood pergola - re-staining project

Jun 01, 2024 13:19

Purchased another gallon of stain yesterday morning, then did a 4.5hr session of applying the 2nd coat of stain to the pergola roof.

Today, finished applying the 2nd coat of stain to half of the pergola roof. Finished using the second gallon of stain. Huzzah!

Will keep going after taking a rest/reward break. Using the third gallon of stain, hopefully will fully have two coats of stain on the entire pergola roof by the end of this wkend. Then I can begin the rest of the structure.

Hopefully re-staining the rest of the structure will be easier and faster, as I will be able to reach the rest of it from underneath.

Gallons of stain purchased and used so far: three.

EDIT 2024-05-02 Did two sessions of re-staining the pergola roof. First session was 10a to 3p. Then took a long break. Then did another session from 5p to 7:30p.

Almost the entire pergola roof now has a 2nd coat of stain applied. By 7:30p it was starting to get dark, so stopped with seven half-board remaining to receive their 2nd coat of stain, darn it.

Will finish those remaining boards next wkend, then can move on to begin re-staining the rest of the pergola wood structure.

Self reminder: purchase a 3inch skinny roller and frame this next Friday, to use on the remaining pergola structure, as the roof wood slats are too close together to stain using the existing normal diameter roller 3inch frame roller I already purchased.
