So... House of Flying Daggers. In short, one of the most painful cinematic experiences I've had to sit through. I'm not sure how it compares to Punch Drunk Love in terms of sheer incomprehensible awfulness... It's probably worse. My forehead will probably be permenantly creased, such was the expression of disbelief I held throughout most of the two ( Read more... )

damn you empire magazine for leading me astray and taking ben to what was a very pretty but incredibly clunky and confused film. *shakes fist* i can't help but wonder if he made house of the flying daggers before hero as there's such a jump in directing ability between the two.

They were very different stories. In Hero he had a theme to work with, but in this he tried to make a twisted tale and he just didn't seem to understand the need for character motivation.

Hero was made is 2002, Flying Daggers in 2004

speaking of margaret and david, the movie show is now being repeated on sundays at 6.30. at the end of yesterday's repeat they mentioned that they're reviewing house of flying daggers this week. i think i will be watching to see what they say.

i still can't get over the difference between the two films. hero was so much better! a huge leap backwards for the director.

I was just thinking there should be a repeat of the movie show. Sunday's 6:30... not sure if I'll always be around for it, but good to know it's there.

Yes, 'twas a leap backwards. Not a film to promote chinese cinema.
