Yesterday, (or maybe it was the day before, anyway, it was tuesday) I went to Busch Gardens with Brown, Buttface, Andrew, and Devon. It was awesome but because we stayed until the park closed (an rode Apollo's Chariot's front row in the dark!), I didn't get home until wednesday morning. So i fell right into bed. I woke up 6 hours later to go volunteer at Dogwood Dell. I was there from 9 AM to 11 PM and didn't get back to my house until 11:50 because of the traffic in and around Byrd Park. It was actually a lot of fun, especially once the concert started. They put me on the stage right headset, so I felt like I was kind of in control of the happenings over there. Of course, most of the time my task of headset guy consisted of talking to the girl on stage left and the girl in the light booth, both of them very nice people. And once the fireworks started, I probably had one of the best viewpoints. I could see where they were being launched from and where they went off, which was basically directly over my head.
One thing did happen that I feel I have to share my opinion on. At the second intermission, a group of protesters walked down the front of the audience and unfurled a banner that read "don't buy bush's war" and maybe something about impeachment on the other side. Well, this did not go over well the audience, or with the crew for that matter. after a short while a man walked down from his seat and snatched the sign away. There was almost a fight, but the higher-ups on the Dell staff broke it up and made the protesters leave on the grounds that they had walked through our caution tape at the front of the stage. Now, I understand that there is a time and a place for this kind of behavior, and I think that this is exactly the time and the place for it. I don't care how patriotic and gung-ho we're supposed to be on the fourth of July, I just don't think there is anything more American than staging a protest and letting your voice be heard. The only reason I like this country is because the constitution gives the people the ability to fight the power. It provides us with methods for destroying it. Those people holding that banner were, in my opinion, celebrating this country's independence better than anyone else there.
